Since I have been mentioned in this post, although not posting, I thought I might chime in.
Every time you add a fitting, you add another restriction on the system. 90° fittings add more.
You don't want to starve the pump for oil, so unless you can go thru the friction loss calculations, I would replace it with the same hose.
Tapping up a hydraulic suction hose is risky too. If the system sucks air, the pump will be trash in short order.
