May want to check and understand how the IR device compensates for the emissivity of different objects as compared to black bodies such as tires. The emissivity of a material is the ratio of energy radiated by the material to energy radiated by a black body at the same temperature. It is a measure of a material's ability to absorb and radiate energy. In other words, a shiny object such as aluminum, chrome, silver paint, etc. will radiate back more energy than a black object so temperature readout for those items may be way off unless the device self compensates for the material or the operator compensates via a published scale.
