Mounting new back up camera

One last question for Algoma. I took a look at my present back up camera, I have one 1/4" wire going into the back of what appears to be a completely sealed unit, hopefully I can attach pics. Before I cut the electrical connection to my old camera, is this what you remember your old unit also looked like. I trust the two lights wires are inside the 1/4" cable?

Thanks for your help.

Yes you will find all the wires in that one cable.

sniggles:

I had the same problem on the same coach and year as yours. I had the camera rebuilt at an electronics shop, $75, included replacement of 62 diodes and connectors. The shop that did the work isn't in business here (West Coast), but others ought to be able to do the work. That being said, I found the camera above for $33 and change.

The Alpines use cameras sold via Voyager, though I'd imagine they are somewhat interchangeable except, perhaps plug ends. The biggest problem I've seen is that to replace the entire system requires a modification of the dash hole to make an OEM-looking fit.

My Excursion's camera gets "tired" at the end of a long trip, or in rain. It'll flicker and go blank, then return to normal.

About four or five times, the "Blue Screen of Death," exactly like those horrible non-Apple computers are famous for, comes on and remains until the power is cycled.

But, both problems have reliable fixes, and I'll keep this unit 'til it takes its last breath... 'Specially knowing that I can get a replacement for $33!!

I have a 36MDS so the camera plugs directly into the TV (now a flat screen) above the passenger's head in the corner. Not so on the FDS units where you probably have a monitor in the dash right?

Unhappy

My 2000 FDS sends the picture thru the TV, which is mounted above the drivers head. Never have been able to get it to work right, if at all.

Mount a swing down monitor below the TV.
