I have a 2004 36MDDS, and it was factory prewired for a King-Dome satellite dish. I just bought a King-Dome dish and planned to install it myself, and found that the wiring harness has appearantly been changed by King-Dome. My choices appear to be:

A) Pay to have it installed by somebody who knows what he is doing.
B) Fish the new cable through the roof.
C) Cut the new wiring harness and splice a phone plug recepticle onto the harness, and use the existing wires.

Does anybody know how easy it might be to fish the new cable through the roof junction box to the entertainment center area? Any reason to not just cut the new harness? King-Dome didn't recommend that, but it seems like the easiest option.

Sorry (almost) to have such a minor problem compared to others on this forum!

Jim - If the new system uses the same number of wires, I would replace the connectors with the new ones and use existing wires. Obviously King Dome would try to get you to use their cables without modification...it minimizes liability and potential problems. However, most people can do these simple wiring changes. The only real issue would be the RF cables (coax). You want to make sure they are terminated precisely.

Thanks for the response. I have pretty much decided on that approach as well. The Alpine Coach has a six wire phone cord and two power wires at the roof junction box. Plus the coax. I can cut the new harness, which has an eight pin connector to the satellite. The other end, which I will cut off, has two power wires and a six wire phone plug. Looks simple to me.

I can use the coax already in the coach with no modification. I won't have to cut and terminate it. There is just one RF cable, so I guess I will only be able to watch one thing at a time! Life is rough.

Cutting the new King-Dome harness and splicing in a phone jack to plug into existing prewiring worked well. Or it would have except that the dish could not find the satellite. The problem turned out to be the A-B switch had been mis-wired by WRV, so the coax from the satellite dish was not going to the receiver. Once I switched the wiring, it found the satellite and works fine.

FYI, King-Dome instructions and their technical service strongly recommend not going through an A-B switch between the dish and the receiver. Once I wired it correctly, it worked anyway, but anybody that has satellite dish problems might want to keep that in mind.
