When we returned from the south I had a message from Kingdome that they had an upgrade for my satellite that was the newer lower dome with much better reception. (so they said. Anybody know anymore about that?

Ted,
Do you know which Model # of Kingdome you currently have and what Model # Kingdome is offering to replace it with? How much $$$? does Kingdome want? Is it a trade in deal or a buy me now?
I've used the Kingdome 9702 and 9704.
Thanks,
Dan

dan, they will upgrade a 9630 or 9702 to a 9704 for $895.00 less $300.00 when your old dome is returned (within 30 days) we pulled the new low profile dome out of the box, replaced it with the old dome and shipped it back the same day.

Dan, I have the 9704 and the price I got was the same $ 895.00 less $ 300.00 when you return the old one. I am told that it is the lower profile unit, has more reception and will not need the golden spray that they sell for
$ 25.00 a can. As Jim & Sue stated it is the lower profile and Kingdome assured me that the footprint was the same. All things are true until tried. Jim, may or may not try his before I get the opportunity depending on Jim & Sue's weather. Then we will be able to tell if Jim who forced me to spend my money if Kingdome's predictions are accurate. Had to blame it on someone Jim if it doesn't work any better.

Does the upgrade apply to the In-Motion model or only to the stationary models?

I have the 9702. What is the difference between it and the 9704 that would make it worth $600 to upgrade?

historyljc, first off the reason we did the upgrade was for the dual lnb feature, ours was a single lnb. needed the dual for the new dvr.
while speaking to king they also advised us that the signal aquisition time was less than 1/2 the time of our old dome. and last its is a lower profile dome. hope this was some help! jim

Thanks Jim,
I don't know that I need the dual INB as we just have regular Direct TV. I believe it all comes in on 101. When I do my search, I show a signal on 101, 110, & 119. I have the low profile unit, but it takes its own sweet time finding a signal. Sometimes it's a couple of minutes and sometimes it's "awhile". Mine seems to have a problem locking in on the satellite. If I don't watch it and turn it off when I start receiving a good signal, it'll wander off and keep searching. Think I'll just wait until we upgrade to HD and go with a MotoSAT.

You need the dual LNB if you have a DVR with two tuners, or have more than one receiver. It gives you two feeds from whatever Sat the dish is currently pointing to. If all you're looking at is 101 (for standard def feeds), then it'll work fine.

Thanks Joe,
We don't have a DVR and at present only have one receiver in the coach so the dual feed is not an issue. I guess that if we wanted to put a second receiver in for the rear TV the upgrade might be in order.
