I haven't seen anything of the Lake Powell rally. Sorry we couldn't go this year. Let us know how it went.

Hi Nick,

Sorry you and Ramona weren't able to join us. There were 24 rigs at the rally...20 Alpines and 4 guests in SOBs. We kept really busy, starting with a tour of the Antelope/Slot Canyon, a unique and beautiful narrow sandstone canyon formed by swirling flood waters over the years. Many of us went on driving tours of Zion Natl Park, the Toadstools in Escalante Monument, Monument Valley and the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. The grand finale was a half day float trip down the Colorado River from the Glen Canyon Dam to Lees Ferry...a really great trip.

The weather cooperated nicely, though the last 2 days became fairly hot...in the mid-90s. We had rain on the Monday night everyone was traveling to arrive on Tuesday, and 5 rigs got caught in 6 to 8 inches of snow that night in Flagstaff. However, Tuesday dawned with sunshine and the snow melted enough that they got out and down to the rally okay.

The Lake Powell area is just so beautiful, that I highly recommend a visit there for anyone who is in the area. I also recommend that you stay at the Wahweap Campground, as the views of the lake and surrounding landscape, not to mention the sunrises and sunsets, are just spectacular!

Happy travels to all!

Thank you for your response. You made me jealous and I'm sure a lot of others who read this post. We are planning on making the September rally and enjoy all the great people of So Cal.

Lake Powell is our favorite place and we have been going there every year since 1976. In fact, that is where my ashes will be spread (but I guess we can't tell anyone). We usually spend two weeks there in July/August and camp at Lone Rock beach. Have met many nice people over the years and many come back every year. My two sons have very fond memories of Lake Powell and try to meet us there most years.

Someone else mentioned Lone Rock Beach while we were there (Fred Masino). Is that strictly dry camping? It sounds like a nice place to put down your jacks.

Yes, it is only dry camping and can be very "interesting" some years because of the sand. We have helped many people over the years to get unstuck.
