I decided to switch the Halogen "puck" lights to LED's and following tips by Mike & Mike on this forum I purchaes the KR6 LED dimmers from Kick lighting.

I replaced the four over the couch first without a problem but when I connected the switch to the three over the rocker chair behind the passengers seat the lights stayed on whether I had the LED dimmer on or off. I took out the switch and using a meter found that the + IN and + OUT were continuous regardless of the switch being ON or OFF. I suspected a bad switch so tested the second of three switches I had purchased with the same results.

Not wanting to pull out and mess with the first switch which was working fine I contacted Kick Lighting who sent me a 4th switch - which tested the same. + ON to + OUT are always a complete circuit. I tried reversing the red and white wires in the coach system on the switch, switching the RED then WHITE to the + terminals with no difference.

I can get the lights to come on but not off!

Kurt or Kirk at Kick pulled switches from stock and confirmed the same results and has e-mailed the company engineers in China asking why. I know the LED dimmers operate by pulsing the voltage, essentially stretching out the 60 cycles, rather than lowering the voltage as most reostat switches but there still should be an OFF position.

Any ideas?

Harold

I also changed out the halogen lights to LED but left the same dimmers in and have had no problems. My LED's have been in for also two years.

ARW:

When I did the changeout the old dimmers did not work. I purchased the pulse dimmers and they work. However, I was planning on switching to the rotary dimmers Mike used, but now will wait until the supplier fixes the problem. The dimmers I use are not user-friendly (but at least they work).

Alpine Road Warrior,

Where did you get the LED lights that work with the std dimmers?

Thanks,

Speaking of LEDs & dimmers, here's something for your File-O-Fax: the dash switches & gauges are LED-lit & the dimmer is a pulse-width-modulator. This is true at least of the Actia-gauge coaches; not sure about the Borg-Warner gauge sets previous (04 and earlier).

I was talking to a fellow Alpine coach owner and IRV2 contributor recently and he said he found condensors wired in the Halogen puck light circuit. Does anyone know why WRV, or anyone, would wire condensors in a light 12 volt circuit? He thought they were connected between the two wires.

UPDATE...The ONE, of three, LED dimmer switch that worked lasted about ten minutes... Carroll was using lights and after about ten minutes of use the lights went out for about 2 seconds then came back on. When I tried to turn the lights off later in the evening they wouldn't go off....same as the other three Kick switches ON only regardless of switch position. I ended up disconnecting a wire.

Anyone have any ideas why a capacitor would be in the line? See previous post. The two strings of lights I left on the original WRV reostat type dimmer are still working but I have only BRIGHT - no dimming.

Harold
