Looking 4 tri mark outside entry grab handle LED bulb

Our coach has the TriMark Corp P/N 540-0200 lighted grab handle with keypad. In less than two year, and probably three or four uses, the top LED that illuminated the grab bar failed.

I am told the replacement LED P/N is 20955-01 and this 50 cent LED can be purchased from Tri Mark for about $ 20 including their minimum order charge and shipping, but being the German / Scotsman that I am I thought I'd try to find it elsewhere. I have tried Googling both numbers without success. Have any of you replaced the LED and found a less expensive source?

Thanks
Harold

I would to put eyes on it but the handle led in my Motor home (Have no idea who made it) is a very standard LED, The problem is the engineer who designed the led assembly.

IF you know how to solder.

I removed the LED assembly (Screwdrivers needed) and dissassembled.

I then unsoldered the LED and replaced with one I had "In stock" (Electronics hobbiest I have assorted LED's in stock) this lasted about a week so I then went on a tribble hunt. Found and shot it .

The circuit is very simple, An LED and a Resistor.. Whomever designed the thing on my coach specified a 150 Ohm Resistor

I wound up getting a High Brighteness JUMBO led (most powereful LED they had) from Radio Shack.> This meant I had to drill out the reflector a bit to pass the larger (jumbo) LED

Note that this is a HIGH brightness LED (More current) and when I ran the numbers past my calculator it came up with as I recall 450 to 500 OHMS as teh proper series resistor.

So I replaced that too

Been a long time since I did that, still works.

NOTE: if the connector to the RVs wiring harness is polarized, DO NOT SOLDER LED till you test it (Replace resistor, Insert LED bend leads Test, no light remove and reverse LED test again LIGHT good, Solder it)

Have done two, one was polarized, the other not (I just swapped leads on that one)
