One thing my wife and I do not like about our Apex is the king size mattress. It is a poor excuse for a good mattress. We are doing some research on what to replace it with and would appreciate any feedback from you all. Plus, how do I get the old one out and the new one in?

We bought a 4 inch memory foam topper for our bed and absolutely love it. Got it from overstock.com and was delivered to our front door.

I agree about the foam topper.
On a previous rv we went to a mattress factory and bought one out of their showroom. They agreed to do the installation. Sure saves the back!

Joe,

Ditto on the foam topper. We got ours from Costco, and it is a pretty inexpensive but effective fix for those WRV supplied mattresses. It scrunches up when we bring the two back slides in, but no matter how long we have them in (while in storage), when we got out again and extend the slides, the topper pops right back into place with no problems.

We have one of the air beds with individual adjustment controls per side (courtesy of Monaco Momma

) and we couldn't be happier. It is a Select Comfort and there are other similar types but it is fantastic. We have foam toppers on our converntional mattresses at home and they help but the air bed is far superior.

Momma, if you read this post, could you check with Monaco (since you have an "in" there

) and ask how I could purchase the "holders" for the remotes that get mounted on the wall? I can't find them anywhere.

We replaced ours with a Temperpedic deluxe, the same mattress we have at home, so we sleep just like we do at home. We really like it. It is a heavy mattress, but Temperedic places will put it in your motorhome for you and remove the old one. Plus they give you a free 30-day trial period if you wish. It is a more expensive mattress but it sure holds up well and sleeps well, especially for my wife who has severe rheumatoid arthritis.

One thing we like about Temperpedic is the foam is so dense heat from the engine just doesn't get up through the mattress; don't know about other mattresses.

We have the Temperpedic in our coach and I sleep better than I have in 25 years. We had the heavy bowl of jello delivered to WRV and had them trade them out. With our new Apex in the glass delivery slot, we watched two guys easily carry out the old mattress. Then it was a riot watching the same two guys try to get the Temperpedic into the coach. It finally took 5 guys to finish the job.

We've owned both memory-foam and air-bladder type mattresses. The characteristics of each are quite different, with variations between models and manufacturers within each category. I'd strongly suggest laying on any that you may be considering, if at all possible, as preferences are highly personal.

In air-bladder type mattresses, the ability to independently adjust each side for firmness can be beneficial to achieving the best comfort for both of you. Consider the effects of altitude changes also, especially altitude increases. Depending upon the starting pressure in the bladders, and the altitude change, it may be prudent to bleed off some air in order to prevent excessive stress to the bladders.

It's been our experience that memory-foam type mattresses provide excellent support. However, the reaction time of the foam in recontouring to new body positions was something we were never quite able to get used to.

We've owned Select Comforts (home and MH) for many years and consider them to be excellent. In consideration for fitting into your MH, the king pillow-top is about 12" thick. Assembled, it is light in weight and the components allow easy installation or removal from your rig.
