I just heard from a former Monaco set-up crew member that Monaco just laid off 1200 employees from both the Coberg and Indiana facilities.

Looks like WRV is not the only one that is seeing a down-turn in the industry.

Wednesday, we leave the desert for the N.W. and the thought of my fuel costs leaves a real bad taste. Hopefully my Bush 'stimulus' check can be used to get me home!!!!!

Your source is incorrect with his figures.
Monaco laid off a TOTAL of 600 employees between the 2 locations.
You can read the article here I am sure you will see many of the RV manufacturers going through these adjustments...

I heard that Fleetwood closed the parts department in Riverside due to financial problems and you can now only get them out of Indiana. Fleetwood's service department in Riverside is still open but who knows for how long.

Excuse my ignorance, but what happened to Alfa? A salesman has told us they are going out of business, but he also said that Newmar was near financial ruin - of course Newmar was the unit we said we liked and he didn't have any, only a Berkshire Forest River. So I didn't put much credence in his statements based on his sales style.

Alfa went bankrupt. As did National and Travel Supreme. Gone.

Newmar is no where near financial ruin.

They are in relatively good financial shape compared to other manufacturers.

They own everything, no debt, and only build rigs to order.

They have had layoffs, pay reductions for management, and are working a 4 day week.

I am at the factory now, and it is business as usual but on a reduced scale.

The news report I saw last night on TV said that the La Mesa RV sales were down 70%. It didn't say from when, last year or at their peak.
