Exclamation More Vansco Problems - Help Please

Members, I am the original owner of a 40FDTS. I replaced the forward VMM under warranty over 10 years ago, no problem. Recently the rear VMM failed, no PWR on light, no start, Eng Comm Err and Trans Comm Err and constant warning dash "horn". Note: Recently replaced the starter solenoid due to a no start when warm engine. I was able to procure a New Old Stock (NOS) VMM unit from a person in Yakima that bought out the remaining parts stock of WRV and had a few 2005 dated VMMs on the shelf. The NOS one has the same HW Revision number as the two installed VMMs. When installed in either position, the NOS VMM PWR light is flashing, but no input, output or NET lights on or flashing. It will not re-program from the other known good VMM in either position, following the recommended procedure from the library. The good VMM, when installed in the battery compartment will engage a starter relay sound and has input and output lights on, but no NET light, no start, no ignition. It will not re-program the NOS VMM. Not NET light action on either VMM. So, either the NOS VMM is bad or it needs to be programmed by the factory in Canada? My RV is stranded. Any ideas where to go from here? Do I need to order a new VMM that is programmed from JCA Electronics? Are there other checks I can perform to determine that this really is a VMM issue? Note: I am stranded and in a position where I cannot be towed. The RV needs to be driven out NOW!

Ok, engineer mike is the expert on this stuff, so get InTouch with him. Try turning off the master switches, and then remove the negative cable and totally stop all 12VDC power getting to everything, Wait 5 minutes, and then hook up that cable and turn on coach, see if this fixes the issues. Alpines seem to have a wild hair up there backside and killing all power brings them back.

Appreciate the response. Do not know how to contact Engineer Mike. I hope he sees this thread and comments. I am new to this forum. I did disconnect both the positive and negative battery leads and grounded out the positive lead. No change. I have contacted JCA Electronics and he is checking to see if the NOS VMM can be programmed by them. I did confirm new units will be available on Dec. 3rd. ouch!! Still stranded, with no solution in sight. sigh.

Try 916-240-2141 to reach Mike.
Or the Private Message feature on this forum.
I believe, if your NOS VMM has been programmed for a 2004 it will/may not work in 2005 and newer coaches.

When you order a new one it should not be programmed.

….don't have first hand info here but following these Vansco threads for some time....seems like replacement module has to be unprogrammed [blank] in order for the remaining good module to "teach" it.....

Rick and Old Scout, I followed the latest programming instructions including Mike’s comments to the exact degree. Still no results. You may be on to something about unprogramming the module or blanking it. Any ideas as to how to accomplish this? I am willing to try it. I need to contact Engineer Mike, I believe. Thanks for all the advice so far!

Wonder what exactly is a "new old stock" unit? If the NOS unit already has programming loaded on it then I have read and heard that to reprogram it you need 2 units with identical good programs (probably both working units as well as correct programs) plus your NOS unit all connected at the same time using custom fabricated pigtail cables. This way the NOS unit is identified by the system on startup as needing the new program and then automatically reloading it. If the NOS unit is only connected with one other Vansco box there is a tie or stalemate condition between 2 different programs and the system will do nothing to reprogram anything. The challenge is to get some other coach's 2 good boxes with programs compatible with your model year + your NOS box + pigtail cable all in one place and try to reprogram your NOS. If JCA can clear a previously programmed NOS box then that should allow it to reprogram with only one other box connected. Hope all this helps but be aware it is just what I have learned from reliable sources (mostly Mike) and not direct experience. Mike I understand has also built himself a pigtail cable.

Carter, this all makes sense now. I believe you are on the right trail. I will try to contact Mike to see what my options are. I am also attempting to work with JCA on this problem but it is difficult. Also have an assist offer from another local member. The clearing of the NOS memory, obtaining a pigtail and another good VMM is the hard part. Thank you for your response.

I just replaced my vansco and reprogramed it as the direction in the thread suggested turn every thing off
plug in new unit
turn key switch on and both disconnect on
what 5 minutes
turn everything off for 2 minutes
turn everything back on for 5 minutes
you are now ready to start your MH with the key
this worked for me just a month ago with a bad batt. compartment vansco and a new unprogrammed vansco
good luck Jim

TMan, member RDM3525 has graciously offered to help with a new VMM in hand. I will reply when I have additional information to add. Thanks to all of you and your support efforts! I need to figure out if the NOS VMM I have is good/bad/reprogrammable. Also have a dead one for autopsy if anyone is interested.

End of Post. A hearty THANK YOU to Ron M. of this forum. He offered up his new spare VMM, installed in the rear compartment, it programmed flawlessly and the RV is alive again! Also a shout out to Engr. Mike who offered up his assistance and is willing to try to revive the "NOS" unit off the shelf. If he is successful, it will be available to another member in need. Also a thumbs down to the person that sold me the NOS unit that will not program, he will not stand behind his sale. "No refund on electrical parts". P.S. I have a one owner 2005 FDTS that will be for sale shortly, as I have a new RV under contract. This is a GREAT forum and source of information as well as wonderful and knowledgeable members. Keep the faith!
