I am looking for sales and installation of the MotoSat HD-SL5 somewhere in the Nor Cal area. An internet search resulted in only one company in a 200 mile radius.
Has anyone had work like this done in Northern Calif? I am replacing my TracStar unit that will no longer receive Directv HD programming.

I suggest contacting Bill Adams, a frequent poster and MotoSat dealer.

I agree with Route 66. I ordered my motosat from Bill several months ago. Delivery was prompt and bill can advise as to installers and installation.

Jerry,
I bought mine from Dale Morris at DMS RV Satellite's. He is out of Idaho, but travels all over to install. He installed 2 antennas, at different times, while I was at the factory. He moved the antenna on our 2002, as the factory had installed it in the wrong place. He was working for MotoSat at the time. He also contacted me recently when MotoSat had a software update.

Bill Adams is an excellent choice. He made us aware at the Indio rally that our MotoSat had been incorrectly installed on the front, which is not advised for Alpines. Had been installed by Guaranty in Oregon. Bill gave us a number to call, we had a quick response, and arrangements were made to reinstall our unit to the area behind the first air conditioner at no charge to us.
Couldn't be happier with Bill and the MotoSat personnel.

Just wondering, why will the motosat dish not work when installed in the front area of the motorhome? I have a friend with a 2001 Alpine.

The dish needs a certain amount of clearance from other roof mounted items.

It's not that it won't work, but the Alpine coaches create an unusual air current that sort of wraps back around the top of the cap area and will actually pull an open face dish up right off the roof. This usually sounds like the dish is banging on the roof as you drive (and it is). The air tries to lift the dish and then it falls back over and over again. The life of the dish will be shortened at best and destroyed at worst.

In the 08 & 09 models w/the sloped front cap, the dish comes mounted behind the front AC. Can't mount space junk on the sloped cap roof, so there is actually ~3.5' less roof length for gizmos.

Thanks for the reply Bill. I recently installed a Motosat Executive dish replacing my junk Winegard AS-2003 and I was concerned about the location after reading about the Alpine problem. I wonder if the Alpines rear spoiler has anything to do with the weird airflow problem.

No, it does not. MotoSAT requires that their antennas be mounted behind the first A/C or anywhere further to the rear.
The air eddies are created by the front end but no one really understands why.

Back around 2000 the MotoSat Executive TV dish was an option on Alpines. After numerous problems from noise going down the road to premature dish problems. Louis Birch ( Daddy Louie) attached a video camera to the front of his Alpine and recorded the dish being beat to death. After that MotoSat relocated most of the units in service to behind the AC at their expense. That may not be the whole story but it is a big part of it.

That sounds about right to me! I know at least one person was aware of the problem and even built a shroud around the dish to keep the buffeting from happening. That didn't help either and MotoSAT finally was able to determine that it was a problem specific to the Alpine air flow.
