Mounting winegard Travler

I want to install a Winegard Trav'lr dish on my 2000 Alpine. I'm a little concerned about the thin paneling on the roof. Has anyone done this installation and if so how did you mount it?

Thanks, Jerry

I haven't installed that Dish, but did install a small solar panel using an adhesive that claims to be stronger than nails. It may have been a Sikaflex product, or something similar. I applied a heavy dose of product on the bottom of the 4 small brackets. It oozed out around the sides and through the screw holes, creating a "button" that seems to provide a very secure attachment to the roof. It's been on a year and a half and about 10K miles so far.

You could try using screws, maybe 4-6 on the mounting base of the dish and let the adhesive mushroom out the other holes. Most of the screws that I have removed from the roof, vent caps, etc. seem to be spinners in the 1/4" luan under the fiberglass, so I wouldn't trust a screw, alone, to hold anything securely on the roof.

I have a Motosat open face HD dish on my roof. I did not install it myself but have been told it is secured by screws. Have had it for 10 years and 84K miles. Works just fine.

….likewise, I recently mounted 4 solar panels on the roof and use ultra high bond two-sided tape [3M] and then covered brackets with adhesive....guess I am kind of a belt AND suspenders guys as I also use screws on front [windward] brackets too....I truly hated the idea of making anymore holes in the roof but figure if I ever needed to, I could "deal" with sealing some screw holes??????

Use the big metal plate (that is an option). Distributes the load and provides a smooth path for the stowing. Lots of Dicor.

I did install a kingdome on my Alpine 2000 when I had it. Mounted it in back of solar panels beside the old crank up antenna. No problems, but it was fairly light. Control wire ran behind the upper cabinets on the passenger side. I reused the coax from the old analog antenna. What a pain. Hope this helps.

I used rivet nuts and my traveler, McMaster Carr p#9721A359 10-32 with stainless steel screws. They are like a drywall anchor but much heavier.

When I mounted my solar panels I used some things that looked like a rubber plug that has metal threads molded in the center, I don't remember what they were called but when you tightened the screw the rubber expanded out the thing I didn't like about them was I had to drill a 9/16 hole to put them in

I used the optional plate. Makes for a sturdy mount spanning a large area.
Here is a picture before sealing it all in and getting wires routed.

Now I'm thinking using wood screws and dicor. Putting a bead of dicor around the perimeter of the bottom of the mounting plate and then dicor on top of the screws. Does that sound flakey?

Looks good, how did you anchor the plate?
