You might want to send a private message to rmmpe. He was one of the owners of our (identical) coach and he put an exact replacement muffler on it when he owned it. I know he's still on irv2 but don't know if he drops into the Alpine forum any more.

Old Trucker; I replaced my factory muffler with an AREO 4040 (not the XL) muffler for a lot less than the factory muffler replacement. The noise was slightly more noticeable next to the exhaust but I do not hear any difference from the driver’s seat. On the good side I did pick up about 2 pounds of boost just by changing the muffler and with no other modifications. They are available on ebay for less than $100.00.

Muffler part #

Old Trucker
I also have 36SDS which needed a new muffler. I order mine from:
Ryder Fleet Products
1-800-759-6479,
muffler part# NEL86542M, $140.00,
clamps part # NEL90868A
I received the muffler in 3days via FedEx. It’s perfect form & fit very easy to install. It took me longer because I painted the retaining straps with high temperature paint.

Put a 6 inch straight pipe on my 1996 Monaco Signature. No louder from the drivers seat and an increase of 1 mpg average. Does not sound like much but when you put 200 gallons in and you can go 200 miles further on the tank it does make a difference. It is noticeably louder on Jake but I just use it wisely.

Dave, this is a second big thank you. I had not read your response carefully enough. The first time I read it I did not pickup on the E=bay. I had checked the internet for this muffler. Black Cloud Performance products came up. They want $196. for the 4040XL which is suppose to be quieter than the standard 4040 because of a reasonator. I was able to order this from ebay for $96, shipping free. You saved me $100. plus hopefully future fuel savings. Thanks again. old trucker

Yes Dave, I occasionally lurk here.
The OEM Muffler is made by Nelson, now owned by Fleetguard/Cummins. I bought it from Ryder, which is explained above.

Hope you are well.

According to the Nelson Exhaust Products catalog located here, the 86542M muffler is a current product#, but the Q27375 is not a current part#. Since the latter is simply a hanger, alternate means for installation should be easily handled by your local custom muffler shop, whether using the Nelson OEM replacement muffler, the Aero, or muffler of your choice. I found the muffler on Amazon, and at other places by googling the part#.
