I have had some alternator issues with my 2001, 350 ISC cummins engine. The original alternator, 8 years of use, is a 160 amp Leece Neville and I don't have the OEM alternator number with me right now. After the OEM failed I have installed 3 rebuilt OEM alternators, the first 2 replaced before the 1 year warranty expired, that have failed. I could not find new alternators and I am not comfortable that the rebuilts by Wilson were good units. Certainly the current one, 3rd, was not and I had it rebuilt locally and got it to a point to use as a spare.
There is a new generation Delco Remy alternator, 28 SI, that is a direct replacement, including mounting holes for the Leece Neville. It is a high output unit recommended for RV applications as well as other high output need uses. It also has improved temperature capability given the design of the case and is in fact smaller and lighter than the Leese Neville. It comes in 160, 180 and 200 amp without a big price jump between these outputs and I put a 200 amp unit on my coach.
I got a pretty good deal on the Delco Remy, part number 8600307, and I believe it is cheaper than the Leece Neville. Have not run it much, but out of the box it seems to be performing very well. Hope this helps others looking for an alternator.
