we have power on generator, and inverter. However, we cannot get the shore power to work. Have reset all breakers, checked fuses, most obvious things including resetting the inverter box down below.

This is a new problem, as we had shore power last night. Any possibility the transfer switch may be the culprit, and is there any way of resetting it. Have located it on basement area ceiling, but nothing obvious to reset.

Joel is not great with electrical problems, so we are asking for help. Yes, men do ask for help occasionally.

Thanks all.....

There are two likely possibilities, assuming the shorepower is working:

Transfer switch - loose wire, loose connection, bad relay.

Surge Guard - Power too low, power too high, reversed polarity, open ground.

FIRST - I'd check the Surge Guard's display screen. It should give you a message about the problem. I run into that about every fifth RV park, especially Thousand Trails.

SECOND - If you know how to use and have a multimeter, check the outlet at the pedestal.

THIRD - Check your wiring. Start at the transfer switch, since you can open it. Check the incoming (from shorepower), tighten the screws. Then check the outgoing (to Surge Guard). If no power outgoing, the switch is bad or something is loose. This is unlikely, since your generator power works. Use a rubber or plastic-coated screwdriver when you do your thing. Some folks (including myself once) have given the relay in the middle a tap, directly down and loosened up the relay. Often it cures the problem. (Hence the two pound rock comment from Mike).

Were I a betting man, I'd place my bets on the Surge Guard reporting bad power.

I have had bad shore power twice this summer. In Kentucky, I was missing one leg of the 220V and the park found that the circuit breaker was not firmly seated in the box. In Texas, I had to reset the breaker several times to get power. Have the park check power at the pedestal.

Surge Guard Power monitor indicates ac active, 119 v 0 amps when plugged into shore power.

Before I turn Joel loose to "beat the transfer switch with a rock", is the monitor info still suggesting the culprit to be the transfer switch.

Dale: Yes....front air does seem to work, but Xantrex still indicates inverter on...not AC

While roof air is running, Surgeguard (firmware 3.9) shows drawing 12 amps and the rig is cooling. However, residential fridge does not work unless we have inverter ON also.

fyi, Joel took the cover off of the transfer switch, and heard clicking (as a switch over) when plugging in and unplugging shore power line. Also, gave cover a couple of Raps, just to follow directions.

To repeat, we have reset Xantrex, and it shows inverter ON...rather than AC.

We are thoroughly confused now, but much cooler...thanks!

We are in Las Vegas, NM awaiting some work on our front bumper damage done while being unloaded on a large flatbed tow truck. We had major engine problem, now resolved thanks to Inland Kenworth in Albuquerqe

Did you re-set both the inverter in and out circuit breakers? Did you re-set the inverter? takepride covered most of the problems with the transfer switch.

Did you re-set the circuit breaker by pushing the lever all the way to off (hard if ness) and then back on? I also am assuming that you have the 119v reading for both legs of power showing in the Surge Guard panel.

yes...."hard off" on breaker.

surge guard panel now showing:

top line 113 0 amps
bottom 113 13 amps

We are shore plugged into a receptacle inside of the body shop.....it has a 30 amp fuse.

air conditioner is still working, so life IS much improved.

Since it stopped while working, I would think contactor/wiring problem in transfer switch or inverter.

Primary problem is: No electrical in coach other than front roof air conditioner while plugged into shore power. If we want power to residential fridge, computers, etc we have to manually have the inverter running, which then drains the batteries, requiring us to run the generator. Even on 30 amps, we've never had this problem before.
