My 01 36 foot unit now has zero miles on it. The dash warning lights also show water in the fuel. A check by Cummins says that is not true. So, after a check by a reputable company I have determined that the multiplexing module for the gauges is kaput. Where can I find a new one??

Ours for the Smart Wheel is also going. We had to have the horn wired around it so we could pass the Texas inspection requirements. They did call the company that made it and because Western Rec holds the rights to the unit (it was specially made for them) new ones can't be fabricated. The driving lights and windshield washer currently don't work on ours. Hope someone has an answer besides wiring around for each of the smart wheel functions.

Barb- I would think that a generic SmartWheel driver could be made to work with some study & adaptation. Do they have such a thing or is their junk customized for every application?

Ken- I think the device you are looking for is called the VDC or Vehicle Data Computer. It is referenced in a file on the ACA Tech Library page under Chassis, see Annunciator VDComputer Bulletin. I don't recall if it mentions a manufacturer. If not, and you are an ACA member, check w/Mark Harrah to see if he can scare up a contact.

I have had both problems with my 01 coach and I agree with Engineer Mike. Ken my VDC failed and it was a bad weld in the box. The VDC "black box is located behind the rear metal panel of the battery box. You will see four nuts on the top side of that panel and the box is on the other side. Easy to get to from behind and pull out. Be sure not to loose the rubber vibration grommets as they are important to reinstall. The VDC was made by Medallian in Muskegon, MI and the engineer that helped me was Tom at 800 828-8127 X358. Your part number should be
1539-10143-01A. The first time I sent it in they did not find the problem. Second time they did. you will have to provide them with your mileage as that will need to be reset.

Barb I don't think you got the correct info. I had my Smartwheel black box replaced about a year ago after it shorted out. It was done by Tom Kszepka, Service Mgr. at Massey's Diesel in Phoenix phone number 602 233-1700. I believe Spartan Chasis supplies that part, but I may be wrong.

This is a Bussman made fuse box [part #30037-2C] that was specially made for Alpine. We contacted Mark but evidently he wasn't able to find a replacement.
