Oops! We didn't realize it was snowing last night until we had a couple of inches on the ground, and then remembered that our four slides were out. The slide-out awnings were covered with 2" of snow and we worried about sliding them back in with all that snow on top, but managed to bring in two of the slides. Live and learn: Listen to your local weather report and act accordingly.

We once camped in Maryland during January and had far more snow on our roof than that so don't worry about it. Hopefully you were winterized.

We are NOT winterized. The Hydro Hot is running. It's 60 degrees in the basement and 50 in the coach. It's been down to 13 degrees for a few days here. We go back and forth about going for a weekend but the weather keeps getting worse. It's warming up tomorrow and going to rain for the next week or so.

Janet and Todd,
I'm interested in knowing more about your stay in cold snowy weather. We have a 2006 APEX and have been impressed with how nice the Hydro Hot works--but we have only used in in mild weather. We have spend many a Christmas in Colorado in our old motorhome--using propane heat--and were not pleased with how poorly that worked in very cold weather. We were hopeful that the Hydro Hot would be great in freezing cold and keep the coach very nice. Your posting suggests otherwise. Before we go to Colorado this next Christmas (2014)

Hi Janet and Todd,

I have had as much as 6 inches on the slide toppers--they sagged down touching the slide. As long as there is no melt and re-freeze (bonding ice to the topper material), the snow will just slip off as you retract the slide. I use a telescoping ladder and a small broom to sweep off the toppers when necessary.

We stayed a month in Reno winter last year, better part of a week was under 20 at night. We had shore power &used a ceramic cube heater except 1st thing in a.m. when we used the AquaHot to take the chill off & make hot shower water. We left the AH on electric except for showers, which keeps enough heated Coolant for the basement (gotta leave the coach thermostat On for the basement tstat to activate the basement radiator). Worked like a charm. Don't leave water in the water filter canisters if they are outboard of the utility panel as they can freeze & blow up. Otherwise it's just camping in the cold & the Alpine handles it great.

We live in Colorado at over 6800 ft elevation and the coach is parked on the property plugged into power. When we get ready to fly south for the winter I always run the AH system on diesel setting for 3-4 days before we leave so it is comfortable in the coach as we load up. I set the thermostat for 65 and the AH has no problem maintaining that temp even on nights that get down into the single digits. In fact the longer the AH system is left on the more efficiently it maintains temperature.
