Is there an approximate psi that there should be given level ground, 1600rpm, new oil and filter? I'm showing just over 50. Thanks

Chris:

About a needle over fifty is exactly where my guage hovers. Assuming that since it has been there from the beginning, that is what it is supposed to read. I changed to a synthetic oil and HD filter, same/same............ who knows?

Regarding your previous post on loss of power..... I had the exact same senerio that would come and go periodically until it just went. I would tap on the guage just like you did......... feel okay that you are not the Lone Ranger. Not sure if it could be the same or not, my problem ended up being a surge guard about the size of a small cigar located on the passenger side of the motor. It protected the engine ECM, and every time it would act up, I would loose the boost on the turbo. It was a simple inexpensive fix, and determined by the code saved form the idiot light. Since, I carry a spare.

good luck,

Walt

After mine warms up it shows about 50 under the same conditions. Cold it shows about 80.

Thanks SteveS & Indio:
I feel ok about the oil pressure but not so good about the loss of power. It happened again this am. after a for sure warm up to operating temp. On the highway in northern NM. she would not exceed 55. I slowed to 45, put cruise on and worried for what seemed like 10 min. but was probably much less and tried again with no problem. We are getting close to Colorado. Won't be able to see a Cummins tec for a code evaluation for some time. These 10,000' passes ahead are a concern.
