On-board compressor

Does anyone use the Alpine's on-board compressor to inflate the unit's tires when the air pressure is less than required?

Thank you.

Only in an emergency, it is very slow. I use one of these: POWERTANK - CO2 Air Systems

Thank you Wayne. Surely is a big help to talk with other Alpine owners.

Zane - I use the one on my Alpine when away from home if needed. I have a compressor at home so I don't need to use it then but while traveling I use the Alpine's to keep the tires aired up on both the coach and toad.

I use the engine's compressor to top off tires. Takes about 10 seconds per 1.5 lbs of air added on mine, call it 5# increase per tire over 30 seconds. I added air to the 4 rears on the way back from Vegas as an excuse to spend a bit of time outa the driver seat; they were about 5# low each, now they are about 5# high.

My 175psi 25gal compressor at home is faster, but its tough dragging it around when we are on the road. I'd get a PowerTank, but I have enough other projects, & my big sweaty wad of money is not as big as it used to be.

I use the engine compressor same as E. Mike does with the same results. I don't honestly think the C02 tank is any faster and it is one more thing to lug about. Engine compressor pumps up to 140PSI and it doesn't run out of air.

Ted III, The CO2 tank is like being at the tire shop. The guy that filled my tank last time said the CO2 was at 1500PSI prior to the regulator. I too have used the on board compressor, but it is painfully slow. You only have the 140-130 PSI for a few seconds then you are waiting for it to build pressure again. To get to the left front tire you need one long air hose. The air hose probably takes as much room as my whole setup. My biggest problem is keeping it full. All my friends that know I have it borrow it instead of firing up their rigs to air their tires. It also is very handy for air tools.

But to be fair the question was can you use the on board compressor and the answer is yes.

While I can use the engine air for tires, I can't use it for air tools. Been thinking about a 200psi tank & compressor ahead of LF tire for that, but that's down the list a ways. First, gotta overhaul the battery box to accept the 13" high 300AH AGMs I just got.

Emike, when you get done with your 13 inch high AG M's please share with us. I need to replace my batteries sometime this year.

It is all I've ever used. Works well for me...a little slow, but I'm retired, why hurry?

This reminds me of something my father had fifty years ago. You removed a spark plug (from a gas engine) and screwed in this device with its hose and nozzle. The running engine then inflated the tire, boat, etc. Anyone remember these?
