Onan problem

My coach has an unusual breaker in the battery compartment, rear wall. It has a red button that, when you push it in, a small lever drops down from the lower edge. To reset it, you push this lever back in.
Why is this important? Well, after the genset has been running and I shut it down, it will NOT start up again unless I do that procedure. It will crank and start, but the moment you release the start button it shuts down. A few times it has worked fine for a few cycles, but rarely. WRV techs said the breaker was an after market item that they did not know about and didn't know how to fix. I thought that was true until I met two other owners who had the same switch, but not the same problem. ANY IDEAS???

Are you getting an error code on the generator panel? I had a similar problem in that the generator would start and then immediately shutdown. Turned out to be the inverter inside the generator and an expensive repair. Sounds as if you may be resetting something internally in the generator when you remove power by tripping the breaker.

Had a similiar situation, not with switch you are talking about, but with the genset taking over the electrical load. It would shut down, multiple tries would not get it to work. I checked and filled the batteries with distilled water, let it charge up overnight plugged into shore power, and the next day, it worked fine. Don't know what to think, but battery maintenance is now on my monthly "to do list".
