Had to replace my Pos-A-Loc due to wear. Previous owner wore the cam down, rounding the corner, hence, the door would not stay open. I called PTL Engineering and they had one sent the same day. They were extremely helpful and courteous. Great people to do business with.

Have the same problem. How easy was it to replace the cam? What was the cost of the parts from PTL? Did they supply any instructions or was it one of those things where you simply pay attention to how you dissemble it and reverse the steps?
Thanks.

As far as I am aware, the cam itself is not replaceable. You need to replace the whole arm assembly. On mine the cam shaft was bent causing it to bind, not a worn cam. As Jim said PTL Engineering is very helpful and described how to replace it, which was not very difficult. Less than an hour job from what I remember.

It didn't come with instructions, but the sales rep told me how to do it. I think you need to pull the panel on the inside of the door to loosen the cable adjustment clamp. Then remove the screws on the plate on the door frame and then on the door. Put in the new one, connect the cable, and reverse the assembly. Then tighten the cable clamp where it was.

Look at the mounting plate on the door frame before calling PTL. There were two models used on Alpines, and they need to know the number of mounting plate screws to know which one you need.

I think the assembly was a little over $100 IIRC.

We also had our Pos-A-Loc replaced last fall. Ours was bent also and it was dragging on the rubber seal around the screen door, which it ended up getting ripped. Got the new one and some replacement seal from PTL. { can not say enough good things about PTL } seal was available as a total set or $ 1.00 per foot. Not very mechanical, so we had an RV repair in Vacaville do the work.

We had a problem with the door also, you had to move the outside handle all the way open before it would release the door (the PTL was fine). I removed the inside cover and adjusted the linkage and at the same time added another screw to the PTL cable clamp (there were only 2 on top of it, there now are 3 (2 at the top and 1 and the bottom). Now the door releases when the handle is about 2/3 pulled and the DW tells me it is easy to open (got to keep her happy ).

Replacing the Pos-A-Loc is a simple process only requiring a phillips screwdriver. Jim is correct, the cam is welded to the assembly and can't be replaced, you need the entire Po-A-Loc bracket. Cost, including freight was about $140 and I get it within two days. It's a convenience I would not live without.
