Last time I took mine for service they could not figure the screen door to door retention and bent the crap out of the latch. I hate letting other people work on mine. I need a front end alignment and drove 2 hours to a shop that said "yeah we can do it bring it over" - when I got there they changed their mind - "Oh we'll need our heavy truck guy here for that, can you come back in 3 days?". I never went back. 4 hours in heavy traffic and I got nothing.

I just added a P-touch label that reads "pull to release" to the inside door lever. So far no problems with mechanics but a few friends have had difficulty in the past.

Good idea. There is a PTL applied label inside the jam that also says the same thing but one has to look for it unfortunately. PTL writes: We no longer carry the Pos-A-Locs, we have replaced them with a door check style hold open mechanism, part #001-444 for $99.30.

When the Alpine goes in for professional (?) maintenance I have plastic laminated warning notices that I tape on both the inside and outside of the door. So far, apparently most of the technicians (?) have been able to read.

CAUTION

This door is equipped with a

Pos-A-Lock latch.

When the door is opened and latched, please use the outer or inner handle to release the latch prior to closing the door.

If the door is forcibly closed without actuating either the outer or inner handle the Pos-A-Latch will be broken.

For some reason the font size didn't come out correctly for my warning notice. The lettering is considerably larger; but you get the idea.

Well, this morning I thought we were stuck inside. I got the door open but managed to break the weld on the pawl while trying to fix the Pos-a-Lock. Looks like I'll be ordering #001-444 door check style hold open mechanism for $99.30.
