I need to order a US Gear Unified Tow Brake. Does anyone know if the Alpines are pre-wired for supplemental brake systems, like the US Gear? (There is a separate model to order depending on whether your motorhome is pre-wired for supplemental braking).

Thanks.

Dave,

Some m/h manufacturers, not Alpine, installed the "coach portion" of the wiring during coach manufacture. If you look at the US Gear webpage, you'll find a drawing that shows all the parts of their system. In the upper left corner is the 50 foot coach harness. That is basically what these m/h mfgs. installed.

You can save your money and buy the less expensive model from US Gear ($200 savings) if you will either hunt around and find your own wiring connectors or if you'll change the US Gear connectors on the other pieces (such as the control that mounts on the dash.) This really wouldn't be a big deal and it would be a quick $200 savings.

Alpines, at least from 2004 forward, have a couple of extra wires run from the front to the rear. They are marked (every foot or so) SPARE1 and SPARE2. If you run your generator slide forward, you'll easily find these two black wires on the passenger side firewall. They run thru the huge (about 2") split wire loom from the front to the rear. But, I never did find the rear of those wires. I called WRV and they gave me 3 places to look and I still couldn't find them.

Cheers!

Dave

You might want to check this web page which includes the coaches that are pre-wired.
US Gear
I ordered item 94-7509 (for a new toad) but received 94-7500 which was great - I used it on the new Alpine we purchased the next year. The wiring was included in the kit we received.
