I agree with Basil, RO has nothing to do with pumping from the tank. If it was used to process raw water that could be an issue. Weather we have an RO system or not does not have anything to do with how long the pump runs or how frequently it is used.

It could be that more fultimers have RO systems, hence more failures of their pumps because of 24/7 usage.

I'm sure the RO precaution is against using the 5.7 as a booster pump for making RO water. The whole-house RO system commonly installed in Alpines is unrelated to water pressure in the coach, whether the coach pressure is provided by city tanks/pumps or by the 5.7 pump. Ouside pressure runs water thru the RO membrane to the on board tank. As Wayne says, it'd be hard to find some difference between pumping that water out of the tank and any other water except perhaps raw water which may contain high grit content. Those who have added a booster pump to the Vagabond system for making RO water faster, are typically using a 110V aux pump that will make over 100psi, and I'm providing a by-pass loop w/adjustable blow-off pressure to get the best performance. Nothing the 5.7 does can affect, or be affected by the Vagabond RO system.

There are rig owners that install an under-sink RO system w/a small tank and small aux faucet on the sink. That is a no-no for use where the 5.7 is providing house pressure as I read the Shurflo docs.

Basil- as to no strainer- I've found plastic tank fragments in the strainer every time I've opened it up. I woulda thought they'd all be outa there by now, but no (I think plastic tank fragments mate & multiply in hard to reach corners of the plumbing, and when they send their kids out to go to college the kids get trapped in the strainer; from what little I can recall of college, stuff like that happened to me all the time, hence my theory). IIWYI'd mount the strainer w/the bowl up (it has an o-ring seal & shouldn't leak in any attitude), and when you need to clean or otherwise remove it, use the fittings to rotate the bowl down, remove, clean, etc... If the space isn't there right next to the pump you can get fittings to mount it next to the tank, and use a length of PEX line to reach the pump.

As to the caution against continuous duty, I haven't asked, but I assume the anticipated problem lies w/the sensor being on 24/7. My last 5.7 failure (and another one the same week on another Alpine) had the pump not responding, but if you shut off electricity to it for a few seconds and restarted it, it would run one cycle till it reached pressure & shut itself off; then it would not respond till another reboot. Neither of those pumps was high run time, but I'm guessing Shurflo's docs have morphed over the years to attempt to instruct users in ways that would minimize their failures. This is just a theory, and won't do anybody any good regardless.
Maybe I'm just carrying on regardless, as rmmpe would have us all do.

"Basil- as to no strainer............"

I put the original small version strainer back in.

Apparantly this SF issue is related to newer coaches?

My 03 has an RV Aquajet 5.3, is this a more robust pump?

Or was it replaced by the PO?

Myth:

Mine came with the Aquajet too. I keep it as my backup. The ShurFlo has a higher flow rate and higher pressure. When I bought my first one from Camping World it had some pulsing issues. I exchanged it at Quartzsite a few months later (no charge) and found that the problem was actually just the screw adjustment. It has worked great for three years now. It can quickly empty my hot water tank if I'm not careful, but I LOVE the pressure.

Mine has started working properly since taking the advise here and adjusting the pressure screw. The only issue now is that if I leave the switch on over night it blows the fuse for some reason. I turn it on when I need it then turn it off when I'm done.

Thanks Milt! I was wondering if I was "different" (Yea, I know I am, but I'm talking about my coach!)

I don't think I will be switching to these "troubled" shure-flos any time soon,

I added a 4.5 gal accumulator tank, and that eliminated all the pulsing and pressure issues, the pump only runs a couple times a day, fills the tank, and away we go at 50 psi!

I run exclusively off the tank, only use a shore connection to fill. I also keep a new backup aquajet "just-in-case" ...

Our 2002 also has the Aquajet pump. Perfect service till last winter in Elko it froze and pump parts were difficult to locate. Replaced with another Aquajet pump. Quiet and it has decent volume.
