Question re elec. step cover

I have a 2002 34FDDS. The electric cover over the steps is stuck in the open position and won't cover the steps.

When I push the toggle switch, the cover engages (clicks) but won't move beyond 1".

Does anyone know how to get at the motor/pistons? I've crawled around underneath, etc. and can't find any access.

Would a guy pull up the carpet? I would greatly appreciate your help.

Don

Hello Don, if you open the Genslide completely you will see the motor and mechanism for the step cover above the generator.

Don,

I have a different coach, but exactly the same problem. If you do determine the problem, please let us know. On my coach it looks like a large boxed cover must be removed from underneath in order to provide access to the motor. I have not yet done this.

This forum is for WRV Alpine Coaches, in order to get a reply that is appropriate for your coach, the best place to ask your question is in the National thread.

I had the same problem with my step cover, I found that there was a screw stuck in the track jamming the cover. The cover was far enough out that I was able to detach the drive mechanism and free up the slide (and also discovering the screw that jammed the slide). Once the screw was removed everything worked fine.

Greasy, but step slide still stuck.

Thanks guys. My step cover is stuck in the open (back) position. The motor engages but will only move the slide toward the door about an inch. There's no sound like a stripped worm gear turning, just "clunk" "clunk" as I move the cover back and forth an inch.

I found the linear actuator by opening the gen slide and crawling underneath. The elec motor is at the back of the actuator. I disconnected that end of the device but couldn't really move the device forward or back. So I can't really access anything inside or outside the coach. Getting inside the motor housing looks like a real pain.

I think I'm at a dead stop but I will appreciate any additional thoughts.

Try pulling on the step cover while pushing the out button.

Detach the step cover from the drive screw (bracket behind the front panel)Click image for larger version

ID:	90576 you should then be able to move the step cover easily. If not determine what is hanging it up, if you can, then determine if the drive screw will move, if not find out why, is the motor seized or is the drive screw not moving. The next step is to find out why they are not playing nicely.
