If all goes as planned I will have the quiet TV fans installed on our new coach in time for the Newport and Redmond rallies. These are the ones mentioned in the "Suggestions" discussion by "Mego" or Michael. Anyone interested in seeing how they help out feel free to look us up at either rally. The stock ones are quite noisy.

Mike and Nancy,

I should have them by Monday and plan on installing them before the rallies.

I have 2 of them that were taken from old computer power-packs.

Suggestion:
Go to a computer repair store and see what they cost. I believe they'll cost less than $38.00 each and you can buy them individually.

Regardless, they are extremely quiet.

They are very proud of those fans! You can buy them all day long on E-Bay for less than $10. I bought 8 at Quartzsite swap meet for $20. Be sure to check the current draw.

Danny,

While the current draw is important, what we are really looking for is QUIET fans. I have installed this type of fan in my home entertainment system and ended up building a u shaped foam lined duct to install the fan in to quiet it down. I had tried many different fans of the "computer", etc. type and didn't find any that were quiet enough. I know that the factory has tried to find quieter fans, but I am sure that they don't want to spend much for them. Rather then spending a lot of time trying more fans again or building more ducts, I decided to just spent the $ and get some good ones. I will let everyone know how they work. If anyone knows of some quiet fans like the ones in our coaches that reasonable let us know.

If you want really quiet, AND dust-proof, then take a look at these fans: AcoustiFan DustPROOF Ultra Quiet fan

Since I haven't tried these yet, I can't personally vouch for them, but I am likely to buy some and try them. The dBA rating for them is very good, and I like the dust-proof quality.

Dale,

Assuming that the 60 mm fans are like the stock ones, then keep an eye on the temperature of the DVD/sound amp and the HD receiver, they are in the top of the cabinets. The fans and the air intakes are all in the bottom of the cabinets. I don't know what the stock fans CFM ratings are, but the fans you are looking at are less than half of the ones I ordered. I worry that without quite a bit of flow to stir the air in the cabinet everything on the top shelf will over heat. While I have everything apart I am cutting openings in the front covers just over the DVD/sound amp and the HD receiver and blocking off the intakes slightly to pull some air out of the top of the cabinets. What would be ideal is the fans you recommended blowing air out of the top with the air intakes in the bottom.

Dale & Dixie,

In the HomeTheaterCooling link in the note above, those fan dimensions appear to be 80mm. If 80mm is not sufficient CFM for proper cooling, then I plan to look at widening the opening to 92mm for the 92mm fans, which have plenty of CFM.

Hello All,

The fans for $10 on ebay are exactly the ones WRV put in the coaches in the first place. Loud and Cheap. Thermatake, etc. The Acoustifan, for example, has 1/3 less CFM. Please refrain from statements that compare the cheap computer fans on e-bay to our PQRV Fan. They are not the same and you'll be doing a dis-service to your fellow Alpine owners.

Thanks,
Michael

I have gotten the new fans installed. I looked up the old ones and found them for about 6.00 ea. The new ones are quieter, but I can't tell how much due to AC running. (very hot here.)
