Rca rtd250 doa

Our laser reader for the DVD & CD on the RCA RTD 250 is burned out.

Anyone have a unit that they have removed, that has a working laser reader for the DVD & CD?

What have you used as a replacement unit?
  1. Do you need to modify the cabinet?
  2. Do you need to modify the close out panel?
  3. Do you need to modify the input connections/cables/wiring?

I have replaced our RCA RTD258 unit with a Sony system and separate Blue Ray disk player. I will be bringing the RCA unit to DRR X to sell at the garage sale. I have done many modifications to the cabinet faces, fans and wiring.

Dale, Looking at the RTD258 manual. It does not show the SAT inputs like the RTD250.

Was your RTD258 used with the King Dome & Direct TV? How was it hooked up?

Rca ht receiver

Might check this post out, I think Wingding & some others have made modifications that could be of interest to you.
I made some mods also, with a slide out tray for the reciver and a expanded metal grill to replace the solid steel plate to enhance cooling.
Shortened up all the co-ax & speaker cables. The RCA RTD258 is just using A/V cables from Direct TV Reciver and out to the TV.

I just ordered this one to replace the Kenwood that came in my coach.

Samsung HT-C6500 Blu-ray Home Theater System with Built-in Wifi - Walmart.com

It has wireless Internet capabilities that may prove useful.

I also plan on using a Deutsch 12 pin connector to wire up the speakers. That way I only have to mess with the speaker wiring once. I may just use the existing surround sound speakers since they work quite well.

I should be able to modify the face plate of the cabinet to get it to fit.

Dennis,

I looked at the RTD250 manual and it does have more inputs and outputs than mine does. Mine was hooked up with the component outputs used for video and std RCA connections for audio to the TV. The Directv was hooked up to the TV with HDMI cable and a secondary set of RCA cables to the RTD258 for use with the surround sound system.

The new Sony has multiple HDMI inputs and a HDMI output for the TV. It also will switch the audio/video inputs to the TV. I have the Blue Ray player using one HDMI input and the Directv using an other, with the TV hooked up only to the Sony now with HDMI. The Sony will also "feed thru" the Directv signal, when the Sony is off, so that the TV can be used with no surround sound. This saves some power consumption when dry camping. I also found that while the Sony speakers are smaller than the RCA's, they sound much better.

To Dale & all.

Thanks for your input. What I have done is replaced the RCA RTD 250 with a LG LHB 335. It has all the same connections as the RCA. So I did not have to rewire.

The unit can play CD, DVD (blueray). It has an AM & FM radio plus a Ipod dock.

Glad it worked out good for you. I just finished putting the Samsung HTC6600 Home Theater system in my coach. I also replaced the Sharp Aquos with a 32 inch Samsung LED TV.

I rewired the whole mess. Everything is connected with HDMI. The only coax connections are Sat, Park cable and Antenna. I use a small switch box to route park cable and antenna to the front, bedroom and bay. The Bay TV gets Sat through HDMI.
