Re-paint Roof Cap

hi,

I tried to search for this but couldn't find anything. Has anyone had their roof side caps and front cap repainted, the clear coat is coming off. If so, how much did it cost?

Thanks for any info.

Dale

Are you talking about just the painted area (top 1/4 radius) above the top side seam and the white part of the fiberglass roof; and the top part of the front cap between the running lights and top seam? That's the area where Western RV used a painter with short arms and short ladder and it didn't get spray painted adequately - especially with the clear coat.

If so, I had the same problem, I removed all the seam caulking and personally replaced it with a 3M 5600 Marine sealant; and then had an experienced body shop prep and repaint it all. I also had some cargo doors repainted (from previous owner's bad driving in close proximity with bushes), but I think just the top part pro-rated out would be about $2300.00 (materials and labor). Great job and I feel better about the way the coach looks!

Is this part of the area you're talking about? Here is an picture of some of the OLD area and paint job that wasn't too bad before repainted. WRV certainly did a great job with the sealer, didn't they?

Paint formula numbers are available from Industrial Finishes | Welcome to Industrial Finishes! in Eugene, Oregon. I don't remember his name, but ask for the gentleman who handled the Western RV account and he can fix you up with formulas and who handles their paint in your area.

Or you can have a body shop match it up with their equipment.

Good luck.

Yes, only about 6" to 7" wide down the sides, the front is much larger, problem is just on the top. A local RV body shop wants $4,500.00 to do the job, which seemed a bit much to me. That was for just a single color.

I would shop around. I have some paint chips on the front cap and was quoted $1200.00 To repair and refinish the entire nose and that included the Alpine Coach logo.

Call Vic at McBrides in Chino. Just did mine. Front, rear and roof sides for $3,500 and a great job. I shopped all over So Cal and McBrides was the one I chose. Tell Vic Chuck recommended them !

Thumbs up

Dale, WRV did my two top side caps at no charge back in 2007. Then 2 years later I had to have the front and rear (spoiler) caps done by:
Kelly & Sons
The Crazy Painters
10512 E. Trabuco
Bellflower, CA
They matched the paint and did a great job. They do a lot of truck painting and have a large dust free paint booth that will accommodate RV's. I believe the price was a shade over $500.

Give our regards to Dixie.

Wow, I'm shocked at the price differences. I will be checking out A-1 & McBrides later this year. We plan to winter for a few months & check out Cali from San Diego up to San Louie and Pismo, across to Tehachapi, back down towards Castaic for a run on 126 and produce shopping, (miss having Valencia's), and back to Pt Mugu, to visit family and friends; T.O., Simi, Ojai. Oxnard.
Thanks dgerstel for the post, the money I save will pay for gas.
