Rear air conditioning question
Well, our rear ac went out last night! Does anyone know what model ac with heat pump alpine used on the 2006 model 40fd alpine coach? Has anyone had to replace their ac on this coach? and if so your input would be most appreciated. Thank you.

Suggest a search on this forum--lots of info available. A/C is either Dometic or Colman. Since it is over 10 years old, model is a bit irrelevant. Dometic has updated several times. The rear unit is interfaced with the front unit. You will need to remove the outside shroud on the roof, get the serial number, then contact someone like PPL in Houston, Tx. to resolve any compatibility issues. For a 10 year old unit, this usually involves buying a separate circuit board for the new unit so it can be modified to work with the older front unit. Chances are if it quit working, it has probably failed but you need to verify before replacing. Assume you have eliminated root causes like breaker and temp-lock outs [ie, how cold was it when unit quit].

Old Scout. Thanks. Every time i turn the rear ac on it immediately trips the breaker.

I would start by disconnecting the 120 VAC at the unit. Verify that there is not a dead short in the wiring.
Next, I would go on the roof and access the electrical area and verify that connections are clean and tight and no burned wires. Careful around the condensers.
Could be something very simple/inexpensive, or as you fear, could be a bad compressor, etc.

Anything is possible but if it is immediately popping the breaker, its probably a locked compressor. It could also be something simple--just depends on how much time/money/effort you want to invest trying to diagnose a 10 year old unit......

Old Scout, I think it would be best just to get a new one. Now just to see how hard it would be to get one to replace and work the same.

Dennis, to find out the MFG and model number. Remove the inside bottom panel. The information will be on the AC as you look up. Ours is a Coleman Penguin low line.

Dennis, what does your thermostat say? Coleman Mach or Dometic?

If Dometic--you need to look under the shroud on the roof for data plate!
