Rear directional lights

I'm posting this for a neighbor who just got a 2004 Alpine 36MDD.

The rear directional/emergency lights, the amber ones, do not work. The fronts work on both right/left and emergency flasher. The dash indicators work. The fronts flash at proper speed. There is, however, nothing illuminating on the rears.

We checked the bulbs and they were good. He knows that the circuitry is controlled by the Vansco system and has done the power off (both chassis and house) reset with no change. There are numerous LEDs on the front (under the dash) Vansco unit that are lit, but not all. Some are not lit. He does not know which LED coincides with the circuit for the rear directional/flasher.

I know nothing about the Alpine Vansco system but am trying to help him in this. I did notice there is a second Vansco unit in the battery bay, again, with numerous LEDs. This unit is completely dark--nothing is lit. I don't know if this is relevant or not.

Any help would be appreciated in this matter.

The rear one should be lit also.
All the indicator lights on the Vamsco do not lite, just the ones being used.
But some are lit on both front and rear.
I would start by checking the power source to the rear Vansco first.
By then there will be folks respond on here far more knowledgeable than i.

Thanks TMan59, I'll pass this along to my neighbor. So, if I understand your post correctly, the rear Vansco unit should be lit up as well. That will be the first effort.

The rear controls many of the engine functions. If you go to the Alpine Tech Library you will find a large amount of information about the Vansco’s.

I had this problem last year and after searching for open circuit and doing a reboot of the Vansco, I unplugged the rear Vansco and re-plugged it and all lights began working. Worked ever since. Hope this works for you.

....the obvious solution to try when Vansco hiccups is to power down and then power up.....since the Vansco power modules are both a communications device and a power supply for down line functions, you need to look at the wiring to both the bulbs, the Euro amber light converter box [if applicable], and the tow vehicle lighting plug on/near the receiver hitch. A short in any of these areas would cause the Vansco self-resetting relays to trip.....

Just to clear, the main power switch is in the same rear battery compartment on the wall opposite the Vansco unit.
Vary rare, but you could try removing the main ground from the battery’s to be sure the Vansco is completely powered down.
Another thought is the grounding of the light fixtures. After power down and reboot, if still no lights, tap on the light fixtures and see if they wake up.

Just FYI- On an 04, unless the key is ON the rear Vansco is dark.
Later models have both VMMs awake 24/7.

I suspect a problem w/power to the rear VMM on the OP's neighbor's 2004. Either key is OFF or the lower left connector isn't seated, or power is denied on lower left connector, any of Pins# 2-5, or there is corrosion in the connector/pins that is shorting power to ground. The Power LED should light up solid when the unit has power on any one of those pins
