Rear engine compartment insulation

The insulation in the engine compartment keeps falling down. Has anyone ever had a spray on insulation put on or can it even be done? i can not keep the stuff up. Help would be appreciated. Thank you.

The problem with most spray foam insulation is that it's not fire proof and could melt in high heat situations, giving off toxic fumes. You could try holding the original insulation in place with a 'spider web' of wires tied to screws in surrounding frame. We did that on insulation on engine hatches in a boat we had years ago.

Seems 04 and newer Alpines have a fiberglass tub that forms the engine compartment so WRV relied on adhesive to hold the insulation in place. Believe older Alpines had a wood frame so large washers or srtips and screws were used. With the newer coaches, once the old rubber-backed insulation gets grimy and saturation with dirt/oil residue --its hard to re-apply adhesive and make it stick again. Need to look at replacing insulation and using metal strips across the compartment to hold it in place. Or.... go back to the old washers/metal strips and screws thru the fiberglass tub.......

We went with Fender Washers and screwed them through the fiberglass.

The insulation has been wet and falling apart. Would it hurt to go ahead and take it out and the when we get home in about a month i can replace it?

It shouldn't be a problem if you remove it. Might be a little warm right after the engine is shut down. The noise is way behind the driver's seat, you could close the bedroom door while driving. According to where you're parked, it might get colder at night in the bedroom without the insulation.
