I need to remove the captain chairs so new carpet can be installed. Can this be accomplished by removing the four bolts that secure it to the rotating frame that sits atop the pedestal?

I removed mine that way. I did have to cut the power-seat leads.

You can also remove the 4 bolts that secure it to the floor. This way, you reinstall the pedestal on top of the carpet to get a very clean install. There also should be a quick disconnect somewhere along the power line to the seat.
