Renewable Diesel Fuel

Hi All,

I have a 2006 Alpine with the Cummins 400. Can we use renewable diesel as fuel? They are advertising it as Diesel HPR and a direct replacement for Dino diesel.

If the renewable diesel fuel meets the ASTM D975 standard, it's chemically the same as dino diesel. Still, it would be best to find out from Cummins if it's O.K. for use in your engine. It could be very expensive if it is damaging in some way. According to one comparison I saw, RDF is slightly higher in Cetane# and it's Cloud Point is -20ºC while DD is -5ºC, so it's better for cold temperature driving.

It appears to meet the standard.

About Diesel HPR | Propel Diesel HPR

I'll have to look into this. Thanks

Further investigation states they have 12 stations selling it at $2.55 per gal. That doesn't sound like a bad price for Calf.

Since Mr. Diesel himself recommended practically any kind of oil, and propane, as fuel for his engine, I can't imagine Cummins having any objection. But curious to find out from experts...

....and, every time you go back behind the coach, you will smell the faint scent of French Fries--yummy [smile]...

That's only with 100% BioDiesel. Renewable Diesel doesn't have the french fry smell.

Just wait, now the govmt wants to put Ethanol in our diesel fuel.
Shoot, many diesel owners are still reluctant to burn biodiesel blend, and now they have to deal with ethanol/E-diesel.

That's old timey bio-diesel. I use it all the time up in Oregon where it's not only accepted with stations all over that sell it, but it's generally $0.50 per gallon less expensive. and there's no french fry smell anymore, they just add a de-smell chem to it.

I'm kinda disappointed by that but the fuel rocks. Cleans the engine too. Wish it wasn't a rip off price wise in other states. States where corporations rule.

The reason it is even competitive, much less cheaper, is government subsidies. It's a false win.

Not subsidized. They are selling the carbon credits.
