Replacing Roof Air

My front air has given up the ghost. I have replaced the start capacitor, run capacitor and PC board. The PC board was required to get the rear AC going. Both the start and run capacitor were fried.

There sees to be a lot of confusion on what I need to purchase. Can I change the PC board on the new unit to make it compatible with the rear AC. Will the existing lower ducted unit work? Hopefully some on here has been down this road.

My units use the 5 button CCC 15000 BTU AC/pump.

I had to replace the same three things on my A/C to get it to run, but I can't answer the rest of your question. I'm surprised those things didn't help it...

I have not totally given up. It will come on but the fan seems to be on super low, like it is in defrost cycle. I also need to check the reversing valve.

I think I am down to the fan motor. The new capacitors got the compressor running. The fan runs at about 1/4 of low speed but only when the compressor is running in cool mode. I will check the windings of the fan either tonight or in the AM when it is cooler.

Update high side of fan motor is dead, low side works. Now it appears the reversing valve coil may be bad or the valve is stuck. The AC blows really hot air in short order.

If you have replaced any pc board on any of the Zones it MUST be a 5 button board. Mixing 4 button boards with 5 will just not work. So if you have replaced one, confirm it the correct one and make sure the DIP switches are in the correct positions for it's zone.

Not sure what your question is regarding ducting.

The PC board I replaced is for the 5 button CCC same as i removed.

2nd question was will the lower ducted unit fit a newer Penguin. Literature I have read is unclear. My unit was made in 2004 15000 ac/heatpump.

My knowledge and experience is with Dometic's CCC system with Dometic AC units. I would doubt any other brand would work, just wouldn't bet my life on it.

Cylon51, I am sure only a Dometic unit has a chance of working. I am trying to avoid buying 2 AC units. It is my understanding the new 12 button will not work with an older 5 button. I also have learned the new unit can be downgraded to 5 button by using a 5 button PC board. I also believe the lower ducted unit would need to be replaced.

I have an upgraded '99 5 buttom CCC and I have done well troubleshooting and fixing my own system and a few others on the forum. I 'm not experience with heat pumps, newer AC UNITS or the 12 button system you speak of. If you have trouble with the CCC not recognizing Zones or appliances, I can probably help with that.

I found the folks at Dometic helpful on giving info on what systems (models) work with what Control Boards and what Thermostats. Their Tech people can put you on the right track. Rook
