SEGI Factory Visit

Having had 3 windows fog in the last 6 months, I decided to pay a visit to the SEGI factory, in Norco, Ca.

As I pulled into the parking lot, I noticed two things: This is a large factory building (Norco stats say 150 employees), and the parking lot was almost empty. I walked inside and the receptionist area was dark, and no one home. A younger looking male hispanic saw me and asked what I needed. He looked like maybe the office manager or higher up. Here is the pertinent parts of the conversation:

Me: My motorhome has SEGI windows and they are fogging up on me. Do you know why?

Him: No, we don't know why. We are using a new seal which prevents that.

Me: My windows are only 3+ years old, and it has happened to alot of other people. What would cause that?

Him: I don't know.

Me: Don't you feel any responsibility to all of the owners who have had your windows fog?

Him: No!.... Who was your coach manufacturer?

Me: Alpine, WRV.

Him: They are out of business and our warranty was with them, not you.

Me: What is your current product warranty?

Him: 30 days.

Me: You must not have much confidence in your products if you only offer a 30 day warranty.

Him: (Smile, but no comment.)

At that point I left. He was courteous, but had an I don't care attitude and offered no assistance whatsoever with fogged windows.

Based on what I saw, they have scaled way back or stopped production. There were only 4 or 5 cars in the parking lot. I know there are manufacturers that are still using their windows in new coaches, Country Coach is one.

I would encourage all RV purchasers to boycott any manufacturer who uses SEGI windows in their products. As the above conversation indicates, they build a poor product, with a horrible warranty, and zero factory support for their defective products.

Agree, if I can find a better source when mine start acting up, I will just replace them, it might cost me more, but then I will know the ones I purchase will last for years.

Boycott any manufacturer using SEGI windows

If you are buying a new or used RV with windows manufactured by SEGI. Take extreme caution. All of my windows on a 3 year old Fleetwood SOuthwind have fogged over. The driver and passsenger windows are impeding visibility and I will soon be grounded until I have spent thousands to repair. Fleetwood will not stand behind them and niether will SEGI.

Negotiate replacement windows before you buy.

There are many out there, If you experience this I would encourage you to contact the National Highway and Transportation Safety Administration and urge them to issue a recall. File a complaint at Safecar.gov. Takes about 5 minutes.

I think they can all have problems over time. We didn't have SEGI windows in our previous moho, I believe they were Atwood but still had a problem with three of them. They were very helpfull on the phone and responded to the situation, of course at a price but we had no alternative. Ordered the new windows and had them installed at a local dealer. It was great to able to see out again. As I read there seems to be more local window shops that are repairing fogged windows. The trick as it seems is finding one in your area. Hope you get your problem solved.

Good for you Ken. I hope SEGI goes out of business ASAP. I had the same response when I contacted them. Worst yet I had an existing claim when WRV was still in business and they still didn't honor it. BAD PEOPLE!!!!

The fact that there are so many of us out there with this problem one would think the industry would step up and protect their products. I have ordered new windows through Fleetwood so I can at least drive my rig with confidence again. I would still encourage anyone with this problem to contact the NHTSA and get on the record. We owe it to tomorrows RVers.
