Service Engine light turning on briefly

2002 38FDDS just started having the service engine light come on briefly then turn off. Searched forum and didn't see much. Any ideas what systems this warning covers? Seems to maybe come on under heavier load or higher RPM's?
Any insight is greatly appreciated!

The "usual suspect" when this happens is restricted fuel flow from a clogged fuel filter.

So replace it (or both if you have the two filter set up).

It is CRITICAL that you know whether you have one or two, as the micron rating of the filter(s) is completely different even though the filters themselves look physically the same.

Let us know if you have just the one or also one on the engine and the part numbers you have and we can help make sure you have the correct ones.

...what Brett said....plus--older Alpines with wax valve engine fan controllers [like yours] have an issue with high intake manifold temps while under heavy load and higher RPMs. This often occurs on chilly mornings when engine hasn't attained ops temp so wax valve hasn't opened yet to allow fan cooling of the CAC.....
Only sure way to know is to have Cummins check ECM for a fault code--assuming issue resulted in a stored fault code....

Thanks for the info. The only filter I've seen is a Fleetguard FS1022 located in the rear exterior compartment, passenger side. Does the ISL typically have 2?
Where is the other usually located?

…..curious, didn't think the 2002 and earlier Alpines came with a 400HP ISL as an option???? Early ISLs had only the 1022 primary filter. 2005 and newer ISLs [Pegasus engine model][high up on passenger side, on the tranny end of block] have two fuel filters. Not sure how many filters the older 350HP ISC engines have....

I believe Yellowdog65 is just asking if the ISL has 2 fuel filters rather than suggesting that their 2002 has an ISL.

OK--but not sure why he would be asking if an ISL has two filters, if he doesn't have an ISL.....regardless--think the OP now has enough information to figure it out ....

Had the same problem when we first got the coach. Needed new fuel filter. Had a second filter put in at the Coach Care facility in Elkhart, Indiana at their suggestion. Never had that problem after that. That was 2007. Highly recommend getting the second filter put it. Yes, it is a little more each year when you have service done, but feel it is more than worth it.

Thanks for the help, this forum is a wealth of information. Just to be clear, we do have a 2002 with the 400 hp ISL. We love the coach, it has been great.
Thanks!

The 2002 brochure lists the ISC 330 as standard and both the ISC 350 and ISL 400 as options. That’s one mystery solved. Now, if the OP has the ISL, does it have 1 OEM filter or has a 2nd filter been added?

He will need to look on the right side of the engine (passenger's side) to see if there is a secondary fuel filter. That is the most likely location.

But, the PN he posted for his only (?primary?) fuel filter crosses to a two micron element. Which would suggest that it is the correct element for a single filter fuel system.
