I am getting desperate. I was told at the WRV factory a couple of months ago that they were getting "new and improved" switches for the Smart Beds. Is there any news? I am talking about the switches on the side (outside) of the coach. I hate having to go into the bay doors to work the Smart Beds.

Greetings from Quartzsite,

It is my understanding from WRV a few days ago that new improved touchpads are currently being tested along with an improved installation method. This is an Apex peculiar problem since you SE guys have switches and don't have this ongoing irritation.

You are right, Basil, that we don't have your issue, we do have the switches. However, you do have to go into the sanitation bay on the driver side and just inside the front door on the passenger side to access those switches.

I guess I shouldn't complain, as it sounds like you Apex owners have issues/irritations with the outside touchpads. Hope WRV finds a good solution for you guys!

Live is tough, consider my dilemma trying to manually pull my Slim sliders out that are over loaded.

Interestingly enough, I received a call from Dave Kamppi at WRV this afternoon and the new switches are being sent to me now. I have to assume that somebody at WRV is watching this forum and paying attention. That is a good thing.

Yes, we Apex owners have our own peculiar set of problems.

What we really need is a remote (like the prototype Apex has). It'd be worth a coupla hundred bucks to me. (in case anybody is listening)

EngineerMike,

Check with our friend Frank Rouse, he has a remote that works for the power reel. I would think it wouldn't take much to make it work with our Smart Beds.

http://www.vagabondwater.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=produ...ls&view_productID=12

It would probably require some relays for the different beds, although I am not sure how you would select each one on the remote, as I haven't seen the unit. I am sure Frank can figure a way or find an other product.

Dale

D- Frank & I discussed it while he had my Vespa hostage. He knew of one w/4 buttons that could handle one side of the coach (in/out for 2 beds). Might be possible to zip-tie two of those remotes together or JB-Weld them back to back (high tech solutions are always the best ). The prototype Apex came w/an 8-button remote, but I have no idea from whence it came. Seems like the perfect option for any self respecting SE owner (not to mention production Apex owners who are hostage to the failing button pads). Just wish I knew who made that prototype Apex so I could ask where the remote came from (and what high-tech wizardry stands 'tween the remote & the HWH rocker switches)

Suppose somebody at the factory knows?

Ebay has remote controlled switches that have 12 channels. Relay current capacity maybe to small however you could add heavier auxiliary relays if necessary. You can program the remote operation to constant pressure, on or off and toggle. I just checked the wording for the listing. Type this in under search.

RF Wireless Remote Control Radio Controller / Switch-12

They also have other switches with less channels. Twelve channel is $50.00 including shipping. Ive used these switches before with great success. Take a look!

The new Switches have come in to WRV and they are shipping them if you call Customer Service. We expect to get ours next week.

I sent an email to the owners of the prototype Apex and asked them if they know who made their remotes.

Maybe they will post the answer here on IRV2 !

I hope WRV sends some good specific instructions with the new switches. It sounds like they are kind of tricky.

I have not heard from any of you that have them and how they work. Does anybody have them yet?

Nick's 12 channel remote is a bit bulky (the prototype Apex unit was more like a largish keychain fob size, real compact), but looks like you could operate 4 SmartBeds, the cord reel, and the awning all from one remote. Supposedly it'll handle up to 20A/14V dc. IIRC the HWH fuse is 20A.

My new 12 Channel Wireless Remote off eBay came today from China. I guess I'll take a stab at installing it at the Vegas rally. Should be fun. I'm thinking if it is installed in parallel w/the existing rocker switches, that I can use either the switches or the remote.

Anybody know what the fuse size is for the HWH function of the SmartBeds?

Then I'll have to find a safe place for it in the coach, so a panic stop doesn't shift contents of a drawer and open all the SmartBeds
