"Smart Beds" or not

I have been looking at an 06 40 ft. MDTS. It has 5 underneath compartments on the drivers side all with latches and 5 on the pass. side. 2 just behind the front tire and 1 midway between the mid side door and the rear tire. I questioned what was behind the compartment doors without latches and suggested they were door panels of "Smart Beds". The response was they were solid panels with nothing behind them and were not "Smart Beds". If this is correct, it is the first coach I have come across with non-functioning panels, which seem like a great waste of non-accessable storage space! Can any of you verify this unusual configuration is correct or provide the correct configuration? Waterdog4315

On those coaches with hinged compartment doors instead of Smartbeds, those "solid panels" are hinged like the other doors. They are just bolted shut with sheet metal screws from undernieth. You can remove the bolts and get to the holding tanks. We put latches on ours to make access easier. (As well as the sheet metal screws kept falling out.)

I assume those panels on Smartbed coaches are also hinged.

Those panels on SmartBed coaches (Apexes & SE's) are side hinged, as are the propane & HWH panel doors just behind the front wheels.

"Smart Beds" or not

I suspect the position of the waste tanks resulting in a blank non-opening panel on the pass side between the mid side door and the rear tire existed on the 03 to 06 models. The configuration on 07 is unknown to me. 08 & 09 do not seem to have this configuration so something changed for the better.

Can any of you confirm the existence or not of this blank panel for each year? Thanks for your help.

Most 07's were SE's so they have SmartBeds and the swing door covering the tank compartments. There might be a few 07s that are "Lmited" models& have the same bolted shut tank compartment door.
