I wrap two turns of electrical tape (cut to width) around the post. Now, the catch moves against the tape, instead of the metal. NO SQUEEK.
The tape lasts for a while before wearing through. Then I just replace the tape. This is the 3rd rig I've done this to to eliminate the door squeak.
I agree with you on the the use of electrical tape, it works. However, I have found that if you do not have electrical tape, use a cloth band-aid. Make sure to wrap it counter clockwise, so it will not come unwraped by closing the door.
