Thermostatic Valve
I have a 2001 alpine with an ISC 350 hp. My radiator fan is runing full blast constantly and I'm hoping a new Sauer Sunstrand thermostatic valve will fix the problem. I'm presently at Coach Care in Spokane and they can't seem to locate any parts as Sauer Sunstrand is out of business. Does anyone have an idea where I might find a new wax valve? Thanks in advance. Have Coach Care call Berenson Fluid Power at one of the following numbers:
509-536-5995
509-535-4281
206-575-5100
916-372-0550
The last one is in Sacramento, CA but they helped out a lot of Country Coach owners who needed PTO parts and may have a line on the wax valve.
I think the outfit is now called Saur-Danfoss, and they don't sell direct but Bernendson is a reseller.

Hax- how did you reach Berendson? And who is your contact?
This info is bound to change over time, so its good to keep up w/it, and keep it posted.
Another neat piece of info for posterity- what's the part# and what portion of the big sweaty wad of money do you need to part with for a new one?

Hmmmm, if it takes 8 weeks to get one of these, I wonder if it would be good to buy one and just have it in "inventory"? I would be very interested in knowing the part number.
Thanks,

Well, I finally found someone at Berendsen Fluid Power(406 549-4181) that would talk to a owner, and the price of the last valve they sold was $323. The valves are made in England and it takes about 8 weeks after the order before the maker ships them. Another 4 weeks if they come by boat to clear customs and be shipped to the dealer. The gal at BFP said she would try locate a trouble shooting guide for the entire fan system and send it to me. I'll cross my fingers.

By the time it takes to clear customs and etc...it would probably be faster to have yours rebuilt. There are places that do that ya know?

Monaco uses the same fan system, and same brand fan motor and wax valve, also same brand radiator as Alpine. Maybe a call to there parts dept. might help they are located in Coburg OR

Call quick before they run out. I found the following info by inputting "wax valve" in Google:
The 2006 Beaver Monterey utilizes a Sauer Danfoss wax valve to control the hydraulic fluid which drives the side radiator cooling fan . Mine started leaking hydraulic fluid, slowly at first and grew worse over time. Had it replaced and found the valve is now out of production. The part number is:
Sauer Danfoss 5553/1/09857/210. In order to procure one, it had to be pulled of the Monaco production line. Sounds like many of the coaches will in time need this wax valve replaced. We'll need to come up with an alternate replacement.

Thermovalve
This could be a long reply but I'll try and keep it short. My brother in law and I just purchased a 2004 40' Western Alpine. The in dash a/c wasnt working so we brought it over to Cummins to fix. They replace the condendser and then informed us that the fan wasnt working. They started taking the hydrauics apart piece by piece. First the wax valve on the fan. We had it tested and it worked fine. We had to actually bring in the fan to the Hydraulic company that did the testing and they tested it on the fan motor. Then they found the Thermovalve and we had that tested and it worked fine. Yet when they put it all back together the fan wasnt working. My brother in law and I started to fool around with it and found an adjustment screw on the end of the thermovalve. We took off the cap cover and put an allen wrench in and adjusted the screw. Guess what the fan worked just fine. (although we now had a hydraulic fluid leak on the wax valve that mounted on the fan. It took forever to get that fixed by we didnt pay for that) My theory is that Cummins never let the Coach motor heat up to 190 degrees thus engaging the fan. They just said the fan didnt work. We also went to Berendsen Fluid Power and they said they could get the part in 8 weeks air freight. My Part number on the thermovalve ended in 190. Thats the temperature that the fan goes on full. Right now I have no idea what temp the fan goes on but the unit is running at about 190 degrees and I dont think it matters when the fan goes on. I think Old Scout told me in my threads that he doubts that the wax valve was bad and he was right. But if you need a new thermovalve Berendsen Fluid told me that they had the 210 in stock and could ship in about 3 days. I spoke to Mark in Santa Fe Springs 562 921-3335 and the price was $292.37 w/o shipping. I hope this helps
