Tire Pressure Monitors--OEM Systems in Tows

Not really an RV topic but I had an "interesting" experience this week. It occurred when I went to replace the tires on my 2010 Silverado, which I use as a tow vehicle behind our coach. As you probably know, TPMS systems have been std/required equip on vehicles since circa 2010. After reading about the various after-market TPMS options for coaches and tows, and my previous experience with changing tires in general, I asked the dealership about battery life on the OEM sensors and what if anything I should consider doing since I have the wheels "broken down" to install new tires.
Granted, the service writer[IMHO] wasnt very knowledgeable about what I was asking but here is what he told me. First, he wasnt really sure what the expected internal battery service life was for the OEM sensors on my Silverado, but thought it was "quite awhile." Second, the batteries inside the sensors were not replaceable so if a sensor quit working it would have to be replaced--cost: approx $175, each. Third, since this particular model of sensor includes the valve stem, they dont replace the stems during a tire change [I didnt ask about replacing the internal valve/seat].
Does anyone have more info on this? If any/all of this is true, it appears we all will have something more to look forward to as the 2010 and newer vehicles get older.

The systems were in the development stage before I retired.( 07 ) Optional on high end vehicles.
Batteries are not replaceable. The valve/transmitter assemblies, are metal stemmed , with replaceable core & gaskets.
Battery life in the three years the system was available as an option, had not proven to be a concern; very few failures. Training and experience of the person changing the tires is paramount, breaking the tire from the rim or working the tire off the rim , with the equipment in the wrong place can destroy the transmitter.
Any tire shop you deal with, for replacement / repair , tell them the system is working up front and that you expect the same when they finish .
