Today's Electrical Question

After I purchased the coach two (2) years and went exploring throughout The Ultimate Do It Yourself Project, I found a bare hot 10 gauge wire (with ground) in the front right wheel well. I then put a wire nut and electrical tape on them. See picture with circuit tester making contact and lite.

It was not connected to either the house nor engine master switches (still hot when turned off), and as evidenced by the wire still being hot after the batteries were recently removed. The only electricity presently coming into the coach is from being plugged into the garage 110 wall outlet.

After disconnecting all sorts of connections and fuses, I finally found it connected to this fuse in the battery compartment.


As the wire travels from front to back in factory installed black wire loom through inaccessable areas, it had to be installed during assembly. There are no loose or cut matching wires in the generator compartment or any front end space.

Does anyone have any idea what the original purpose of this wire is, or might have been?

From my experience; you’re electric seats or the electric step.

Both were wired this way in early coaches, always hot direct from the battery.

Thanks, but they work fine with this "line-to-nowhere' being cut and loose.

As Gary points out those self resetting fuses go to either the entry step or the driver's seat. Maybe you had an additional connection to the passenger seat that was disconnected some time ago.

That makes sense. And since I don't have an electric passanger seat, WRV (true to nature) just left the hot wire hang unprotected and bare in the wheel well.

Do you have solar panel? Could be that, try checking it when the sun is down, otherwise it was/is for something that was not installed on your coach, but the wiring is there for that item. Steps or the seats make sense, don't know of anything else.

What about the front shades, step cover or sun visors? They're wired hot on our coach.
