Funny you should mention it- this arrived by email this morning:
VDC vehicle data computer, aka EDM Electronic Data Monitor
vehicle data computer- this is a little black box mounted up behind the air cleaner and back of the batteries.
This little black box carries information from the engine to the instruments on dash. I have a 2004 Alpine Coach 40 ft. I would start the engine all warning lights go off okay . After five minutes the warning lights came back on , low voltage, low oil pressure , high water temperature . The tack would drop out, speedometer would read Zero and the warning horn sounded, you could repeat this and it was always be ok for five minutes .
When this happens information from tack to the transmission is not accurate and shift points in transmission change. To get in sixth gear you had to be going 75 miles an hour and it would drop back out of sixth gear at 67. I knew this because I was using my GPS for a speedometer. While talking to you, Engineer Mike, you gave me a telephone number of a company that made this part for alpine coach. The new name of the company is MEDALLION Instrumentation Systems, and the telephone number is, 800-828-8127, this was technical service . I talked to Tom Hale he gave me the new number for the part I needed, part number is 1529 - 101 - 65 - 01. This part is called EDM stands for Electronic Data Monitor. Tom connected me with Cheryl Crane in the order department. .This part has to be made to order. It takes two weeks to make and program the part, they were manufactured for Alpine Coach ..I had to e-mail them an affidavit with speedometer reading. This reading has to be programmed into the monitor. This little black box sends information from the engine to the instruments ,speedometer , tack , warning lights and warning horn in the dash. Cost of part is $340. It is in a hard place to get to.
