Rick:

I often spray a little Simple Green on everything, then hose it off with a water nozzle. I was always told that as long as you aren't putting so much water down that the connection is direct there isn't a problem. I've seen Bus West and a few other mechanics do the same.

I have the white caps that are connected together with a twist plastic piece..are the hydro caps a tighter seal? If they keep the cells from leaking better, would like them but where do you get them? thanks so much..Mel

Dale, where do you get the hydro caps and do they do better than the white plastic caps that are connected to all 3 cells that come with Interstate batteries? thanks. Mel

Mel,

I wash out the compartment with just RO water, as it has next to no contamanints in it. I use a fairly fine mist and try not to get much on the electrical componants on the walls.

The Hydrocaps have a catalyst in the cap. This recombines the hydrogen and Oxygen to make water which drips back into the battery. This also keeps the acid from misting out of the battery like it does with the regular caps. Here is a better explanation than mine, at the bottom of it is the name and number of who makes them.

The place I have always gotten mine no longer handles them, but I found this source, although more expensive than from the Mfg.

On my rig about 2" of the Spare1 & Spare2 wires come out of the wire loom going to the rear Vansco in the battery compartment, they are labelled.

From another thread, I've heard that the rear end of the spares can be found near the trailer plug, in the battery box or by the transmission, depending on mood of the factory at time of install, or maybe by model year-ish.

On an 02, the forward side of Spare1 & Spare2 was located next to the master cylinder (below floor boards of driver's chair), and so labelled.
