Upgrading the Front Cabinet and AV System

So when we bought our coach last year the part that was most obviously from 2001 was the AV system. in 2001 Alpines came with a 20' tube tv in front....man was that state of the art

While the previous owner had replaced the tube with a 28" LED it was an afterthought at best and was my favorite place to hit my head when entering the coach

We also had a satellite dish from 2001 which was obsolete so I upgraded to a Winegard Travl'r and a Dish Hopper with a Wireless Joey for the bedroom/outside....but it really was a challenge watching anything on that small screen.

In looking at how to add anything larger looked at 32 and 40" but there was no way to do it and comfortable enter and exit without brain damage ....the only way was to completely redesign the cabinet and move the screen toward the windshield.

Make a long story short it was out with the old and make a new one to handle a 40" or larger....we went with 43" and I finally got things put together today.

It's still a little bit of a work in progress but the cabinets are all in, wiring is all done including
  • Under-Cabinet Lights
  • Fans re-installed
  • (3) 110- outlets added
  • (2) 12V outlets (2 usb and cigarette lighter adapter each) added
  • Wiring channels for AV cables.

The doors are still a week out and the MCD Shade is going in later this week but the improvement is HUGE (including the TV) and no more headbanging

What do you guys think??

Upgrading the Front Cabinet and AV System

Looks great, I am thinking of a televator on the driver’s side so from he couch we are looking straight on at the tv, that way I can go with a 49” set.

Dave, I am building a cabinet with a televator to go on the Passenger slide that will also incorporate a dinette table with chairs. Plan to use wireless HDMI to get signals from front cabinets where satellite and DVD are to the new TV

Sounds great but the wife really likes having her own couch when we relax and watch a little TV.

I haven't shown off our storage/table solution yet as it's still a couple of weeks away

That looks fantastic.
I had the design where the tube tv was on the LH side.
I just closed off the front of the tv space and put a 32" on an adjustable arm.
So when driving, its tucked away on the LH side, but when parked it can swing over to (almost) the center.

But since were talking about updating this area, I have a big question.
The factory tv was attached to the backup camera and was used as a monitor.
Now with that old TV gone, what is the best way to re-establish the back up camera?

Good job! My 2004 MH had a similar av vintage setup. I was able to get a 55 inch screen installed. I have a plan to finish with wood trim including a electronic code pistol/cash safe concealed behind an easy access panal.

Ours wasn't connected through the TV but we did upgrade the back-up camera system with a completely new 4 camera system including a 9" LED monitor for about $450 on Amazon and paid the local Stereo shop $300 to install the whole thing.....one of the best upgrades we have done!
