I have never seen this in a power real but I think I have in manual, Manual is less likely to fail anyway

Imagine a large Hose reel with a hollow hub.. Basically a pipe (NOTE you could make this out of PVC very easily) inside the reel there is a hole in the hub.

Stick the "outlet" end of the cord in the hole and pull it out the end without the crank.. Now you unplug, hook on a "Cord end Protector" device (this is a cover that attaches to a Marineco fitting to protect it) and crank the cord onto the reel, as you crank the "Pigtail" (the part sticking out) rolls.

Better: Since you should always COMPLETELY UNWIND the cord from the reel. (I won't go into why but even a light load on a coiled cord can heat it up)

To coil: Unplug, pull the cord till the "outlet" is inside the pipe and coil it up

to plug in Pull the cord off the real, and pull the plug out and plug in

In both cases you have no need to maintain a connection while rolling up the cord.

Home is where I park it!

Thanks for the post everyone...I have been gone for a week, and didn't have computer access. I'm even more determined to do something different after this little trip with the coach... I just haven't figured out what yet.

For now though ...I have a more pressing issue, as per a new thread I started. The STOP ENGINE light is coming on..!!

So I'm going to have to fix that first ...THEN the get back to the power cord problem..

FWIW, I have a TDI that has worked flawlessly for about 5 years since I replaced a previous TDI that had a power-cord stretch problem (happens when you leave the cord plugged in and try to drive away!). The TDI folks were very prompt in their response and shipped the replacement quickly.
