Has anyone replaced the TV's in their Sea breeze motor home and if so would you share the experience and perhaps the photos with me, I'd like to give it a try.

Thank You

pappaono, You probably have a CRT type TV (picture tube) and getting a replacement set isn't easy because they just don't make them any more.

My 25 or so inch RCA just quit so I had to apply an expedient and use a pinch hitter!

The history of this TV is that we've owned this thing for 10 or more years. It used to be our bedroom TV back in Connecticut. We brought it here in the move and we actually loaned it to some friends that we knew and they used it for about 1 year. We recently got it back in good shape and since we have two flat panel TVs at the moment this one went out of commission on the garage shelf. I mothballed it in a thick garbage bag and it sat there for about 6 months.

Our RCA TV in the RV lost its picture and it had been doing this on and off now for about 2 years so we knew it was going. We are going on the road shortly and Colleen suggested why don't you see if you can get the small TV working in the motorhome for the time being.

OK -- So I pulled out the RCA and installed the Sanyo. It ain't pretty but it works great, the sound is connected to our theater system and I can input signals from the DVD. Best thing is that I was able to secure the thing using the existing hardware. Thank God for slip stop. There is a strap across the top of the unit that I had to reverse for the smaller cabinet and I mounted the base of the TV on a piece of slip stop wrapped 5/quarter deck board.

In the back of the enclosure is a bungee cord holding the back of the TV cabinet under tension down into the enclosure. This is a real Earl Sheibe job but it's better than no TV.

At some point here in 2011 we'll find a TV that we like. I expect that it will be a 32 inch flat panel and we'll have to engineer the finish panels for it and find a way to hang it.

when I looked up in the overhead in the enclosure I can see the satellite wire. If I ever get a roof mounted antenna it should be easy to pull in a piece of RG6 since all the cable in my coach is RG58.

If you run a search on this you will find what you are looking for. I replaced mine with a Magnavox 32" LCD TV it is 30" wide and fits the space perfectly. Other manufactures make TV's this width so look around. The hardest part is getting the old one out it is about 95# so get help.

pappaono, I have installed a Samsung 32" HD TV in the front of our 2005 Dolphin. See below. Note that I added a stain matched hardwood under panel to complete the installation. Took a day and a half to complete.

Jeepster47, OUTSTANDING!!!

I too have a 2005 Dolphin and I am getting ready to change out the TV. I have been planing to do just as you have done. Looks like you added a wood panel under the complete overhead. Are the 2 rectangle holes for cooling? And behind that is an access hole? Looks like that 32 inch fits perfectly. Nice job!

Lots of folks have done this on your model of NRV. Search the National RV forum using LCD TV or TV replacement as key search words and you will get how-to's and plenty of pictures.

And DriVer, you are right, yours ain't pretty! Got to love those old electronics that don't quit, though.

Bill, the rectangler openings were cut out for the sound as the speakers are in the bottom of the TV. The openings were covered with black speaker fabric. I also utilized the two side support plates and bottom plate (turned vertically), to mount the new TV. Much better than using wood or TV mounting bracket.

Jeepster47,
Great job. I have a few questions about your job.

What's the model number of the Samsung LCD TV you installed?

Do you have a picture of your mounting bracket solution before you mounted the TV?

Did you cut back the existing support brackets to allow for the flush fit?

Thanks,
C6

coulter6,
I installed a Samsung series 5, 540 HD LCD, TV. It measures 31.5 " across. I cut approx. 4" off the bottom of the 2 side mounting plates and cut an opening in the TV mounting plate (the plate used at bottom of old TV) to access the Connection Panel at rear of TV. See photos below. Send me a private message for more details.

Hello again Jeepster47,

Can you tell us what type of wood and the color and manufacture of the stain you used. It looks like a perfect match. I think I am getting closer and closer to doing this project.

Thanks again ~ Bill

driVer,

The cable in your coach is probably RG-59 which is 75 ohm cable. RG-58 is 50 ohm cable and used for 2-way radio installations i.e. CB or ham radio, etc. The RG-59 cable that National RV used will work fine for satellite as both RG-59 and C-6 or RG-56 are all 75 ohm. The only reason the satellite manufactures recommend C-6 or RG-56 is because of the signal loss factor of the cables over long runs. RG-59 has more loss at the higher frequencies. However in your case the cable is so short it will work fine. If the cable run is shorter than 50 feet you will not see any difference and it would be OK to use. If your cable truly is RG-58 it should be replaced.

~Bill
