Our bedroom slideout quit working, due to a broken shearpin, Early in February in Arizona. It was`repaired a couple of weeks later near Houston. After being used only six times it broke again in Colorado. I do not know how the second pin compares to the original, but I would like to know what the correct pin should look like. Any help will be appreciated.

Glad you found us,
National RV used two supplires for slide rooms RBW IND. and Power Gear, you need to check and find out what one you have. Both Co's have web sites.
Good Luck

Sounds like a current limiting device in the circuitry isn't working, and happening after it's against the stops, with the power still be applied, otherwise, I wouldn't think a pin would shear that easily. Also if you can retrieve the old one...you may be able to match it up at a local supplier, in which case, I'd purchase a spare, while you find out what is causing this.

This happened to me with my '05 bedroom slideout. I covered it in the Forum, a search should pull up the info. To make a long story short, the problem on the Power Gear slide mechanism was solved by replacing the shear pin with one located at a local hardware store, nothing exotic about it. I now have a spare taped to the bottom of the slide compartment.
There a TIP document on the problem on the Power Gear website. All my info is in my MH, in the shop for repair. After repair, it is important to keep the slide parts lubricated, to prevent binding, which I think overloaded the motor, which is probably undersized. The less weight on the slide during operation, the better. No free rides for the kids. If you need more info, I will dig deeper. Good luck.

Bill Davis,

I wonder if you might have the part # for the shear pin so I can keep one on hand and also what lube do you use and where? I was told to use bar soap under the bedroom slideout where the gell coated underside contacts the rollers.

My coach with all my documentation is in the shop, I'll get back to you when I can access it.
Soap on the parts that rub against each other is good. Also, clean and wax the underside that rubs against the gasket, and make sure the gasket is clean and lubricated. There is a lubricant for the gasket material, the name escapes me. Check CRC products, Camping World, etc.

I have replaced my bedroom slide out pin twice. Called power gear and they sent me a package of 4 pins. I also keep them taped under the bed ,along with a small hammer, punch and pliers.. These are stainless steel pins..Power gear is aware of the issue.

Funny you should mention. I spent this afternoon trying to replace my second Sheared Pin. This one was from a hardware store, and it lasted almost a year. I now have two replacement pins from Power Gear, the stainless steel ones. Having trouble removing the bad one, it was longer than necessary and will not tap out. I will have to drill it out, trying not to enlarge the hole. I'll let you know what happens.

Bill,
Before you drill, did you release the break lever on the drive motor to release the tension between the two shafts. Also you may need an assistant to hold a back up bar on the back side of the shaft when you use the hammer and punch.
Good luck

I replaced the shear pin with the one sent to me by Power Gear. Works, but sticks out each end. Not enough to hit anything. Then I discovered the real problem was under the slide, where a gear rides in a track that is bolted to bottom of slide. This is the location where the open/close operation actually takes place. As the shaft driven by the motor rotates, the gear mounted on it rotates in the track, causing the slide to move in or out.
My gear is not turning with the rotation of the shaft. There is an empty hole in the collar of the gear, and a corresponding hole in the shaft. Apparently a pin has fallen out. This is where it gets interesting.
Power Gear had no info on this part, and could not identify the LPS-32027 assembly that the gear is part of. But RBW Industries could! The other vendor supplying National with slide mechanisms. Apparently I have been talking to the wrong people.
I am now waiting for a call back from Tech Support at RBW industries to find what to put in that empty hole. Oh yes, the shear pin from Power Gear worked fine in the other location.
Am I the only one fixing RBW Industries slide mechanisms with parts from Power Gear?

That is a possibility...lol...
So, does the motor gearbox assembly say it's a powergear brand?

I was wondering why you went to PowGear, I thought all '05 had RBW slide parts. Our bedroom mechanism was replaced last year and think if it fails again I will go with the upgraded parts.

There is nothing on any part of the slide mechanism identifying who made it. Only a part number, or assembly number. The Power Gear website has a lot of info, the RBW website has very little. Perhaps my system is a hybrid.
