1994 Dolphin check engine light

I have a 1994 Ford 460 EFI. I've replaced the fuel filter, idle air control sensor which was bad. Map sensor, throttle position sensor which was bad, all 8 fuel injectors, what a difference that made, that woke her up. Ran Sea Foam through the system. New plugs, wires, distributor cap, rotor button, air filter, replaced o2 sensor twice now, there's only one on mine, and my check engine light is still coming on. Now it comes on and then goes off. My code reader still shows code 172 which is o2 lean. I've checked for vacuum leaks and haven't found any. All I know to do now is to replace the gas cap. When I took it off today it was under pressure so I think it's good. I'm about to take my first trip that is 550 miles one way and I don't want to be looking at a check engine light flashing at me if that be the case. Any ideals???

Is the light flashing? like on and off? that would indicate a misfire. If it comes on and goes off after a while and stores a P0172 on a new o2 check the fuel pressure. Also have had bad grounds to the o2 do that.

Check engine light

The light comes on then goes off and at times come back on storing code172. What should the fuel pressure be 45lbs?

I'll have to look it up at work Monday, don't know off the top of my head. Is the o2 sensor a 3 wire or 4 ?
Just looked on Google 32 to 45 should be good.

o2 is a 4 wire. Where would the ground wire be on that too? That harness just snaps together.

That also is on my computer at work, sorry I'll look up the wiring diagram for that tomorrow. I think it is the gray wire.
Have you looked at all the vacuum hoses? that can cause a lean code to.

Yes I've checked vacuum lines and all seem to be good. It had a little tail pipe backfire in park on deceleration , tail pipe back fire is from running lean, vs, intake backfire from running rich. Since I installed the new injectors the backfire problem as been solved and runs amazingly strong. I feel that it's not getting enough fuel causing the lean code to trigger. But what do I know. I'm a carpenter not a mechanic.

New Doc_1.pdf

Check the ground in the diagram, it's sometimes easier to just add a wire to it.
The EGR can hang open and cause lean conditions to.

Thanks for your help. I checked the gas pressure today and it has 35psi koeo. The previous owners receipt shows the fuel pump was replaced July, 2009. I called the place they had it installed and was hoping they had info on what type fuel pump it was. It was a heavy truck equipment facility but he said it was done just before they went to computer, no records. He did say they used NAPA parts and the receipt showed it cost almost $400.00. All that being said, if they installed the Motorcraft PFS-48 and that's in the neighborhood of pricing I would have no worries. I put the new fuel cap on today and ran it on the interstate for about an hour and the light came on 3 times for just a second and went off. I'm going to take it on my 550 mile trip over Father's Day for my first trip and blow all the cobwebs out. After all I've done especially after the new fuel injectors it runs strong and smooth. Wish me luck. To all you Rvers, I'm telling you, if you have any doubt change the injectors. They may look good but if they have any age on them their simple enough to change. Mine took an hour and you can buy them online penny's on the dollar. It runs and shifts gears like I'm in a different rig. Happy Happy Happy
